Subject: A bird! A plane...

Hey everyone, Anyone know where I can get a model of a bird standing up, perhaps something like a flamingo or pelican? I have poser but I didn't see anything at Zygote. I saw 1 model collection online (someone else posted a nice looking tutle from that collection) but it's a 1 shot deal, no per-model pricing. Anyhoo, thanks in advance! -Brian

Brian, if you DO find some, please let me know! 3DCafe.com has a couple of free herons and flamingos, but they're not posable. Birds are definitely something that we need more of in the Poser world it seems. I for one would love to have on of those woodpeckers with the long red crest of feathers.

There is Pelican (free) from Viewpoint in their sample list.

Maybe take a look at Vista Internet. They've got some ducks and geese and macaws and parakeets and some others. You can get the model for Poser, or also in pre-posed positions for use in Vue. The prices are very reasonable. http://www.vistainternetproducts.com/ Another place to check is Dedicated Digital. They've got an Animal Kingdom CD which has a wide range of animals, fish and birds in various formats, including poseable. Last I checked, the CD was only around $125 which is a quick way to get a whole zoo at once. http://www.dedicateddigital.com

Cool -- that's some good info. The crane model at dedicated digital is real nice, pretty much what I'm looking for. Anyone get the animal kingdom CD? How easy are the models to use in Vue? I'm assuming they aren't poseable, but I'd imagine they have texture maps et. al. ... Thanks again! -Brian

I would like to add one question if I may :) If the animal model is not poseable, do you need a high-end application to modify it ? For example, if you want its head bending or just moving its legs ?

SAM3D just posted a tutorial on how to make obj possable using normal Poser. You can also use Poser pro Pack bonning feature to do ust that if you have PPP.

Thanks, I will have a look at the tutorial :)

Brian, the Animal Kingdom CD has several formats, including Poser's CR2 making them poseable. They're not as versatile as figures specifically designed for use in Poser, but still very useable. You can bend the heads, feet, fins, etc...just can't get too extreme. From Poser to Vue is as easy as saving the PZ3 (for importing to Vue 4) or export as OBJ or 3DS (for importing to Vue 3). Or you can use 'em as they are from the CD direct into Vue, in 3DS or OBJ. :)
