Subject: Question on Millennium Girls

it says on the page: Preschool & PreTeen OBJ's (geometries) All the child-appropriate morphs from Victoria 2.0 does this mean you have to have Victoria 2 to use it?

shadowcat ( ) posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 10:22 PM

I wouldn't know, I can't even get to the page. but I wouldn't think so, otherwise it would say "requires Victoria 2"

wyrwulf ( ) posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 11:17 PM

They reworked the Victoria OBJ like they did with the ogre, and have used morphs from the Victoria2 Cr2 that are "child appropriate". Probably meaning not very many breast morphs.

nitreug ( ) posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 11:23 PM

No needs for Vicky 1 oe 2.

wyrwulf ( ) posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 11:28 PM

Thanks, nitreug, I forgot to say that. The kids are completely independant characters.

DonnyD ( ) posted Tue, 31 July 2001 at 11:48 PM

So this means you can distribute CR2s? Or custom morphs without a pose file? Also, does the clothing pack have appropriate morphs to go with the full body morphs (heavy, etc.)? I'm thinking about getting them and am a little curious... DonnyD

wyrwulf: So, what we're getting is essentially a morphed Vicky OBJ, with the exact same material/bodypart breakdowns and (technically) compatible morphs due to identical vert counts? I'm not griping, I'm just asking. If it's true, existing Vicky clothing could be morphed down to size, theoretically.

wyrwulf ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 12:02 PM

I haven't bought the kids yet, but I have the ogre. I am just going by what is stated at Daz3D and what I have seen on the forums. I don't think the Cr2s would be distributable, because they are based on Vickie2. A completely custom morph that was "squeezed" should be OK. If they haven't resliced the OBJ like they did for VickieP4, the morphs should be transferable and you should be able to make the clothes work.

I've already answered the question for myself. The girls are the same mesh (the heads, at least), but if you apply a Vicky head morph the head (unsurprisingly) reverts to Vicky size and shape, without taking the eyeballs along for the ride and squshing the neck down. The CR2s are technically NOT based on V2 because the kid morphs aren't the same as the V2 morphs. Same names, same functions, but if you tried to pilfer the morphs for use with Vicky you'd get a little kid head and eyeballs where the cheeks should be, probably. I'd also guess the morphs were hand-tuned for the kids, not just scaled from the larger ones. In any case, you can't easily extract V2 content from the kids as far as I can tell. So, while they sport the same innovations that V2 does, and the base Vicky mesh, they're still original characters the way Vicky1 was. Until we hear otherwise from DAZ (and they weren't tightlipped about this when they released V2), I think these characters are safe to distribute.

Using Morph Manager, I just transfered the alien head from the preschooler to Vickie1. It worked just fine, so the Cr2s won't be redistributable.

duanemoody ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 4:49 PM

Which alien head, the preschooler-sized version or Vicky2? Let me reiterate: the morphs that come with the kids are sized and customized for the kids. I can move them to Vicky1 without Morph Manager, but I can't make them into Vicky2 morphs, because they're not the V2 morphs. If I put the kids' AfAm2 morph into Vicky1 and try to use it, I get a 5'11" model with a little black girl's head and misplaced eyes. Try it and let me know if you get an adult head instead...

wyrwulf ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 5:04 PM

I took the alien head from the preschooler Cr2 and transfered it to the Victoria1 Cr2 with Morph Manager. It worked just fine. I think that MM just transfers the deltas. I just tried exporting OBJ as morph target the preschooler head, then applied as morph target to Victoria1 head, and got what you got. I did the reverse, exported Victoria1 head as morph target, applied to Preschooler head, and got a similar result.

wyrwulf ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 5:28 PM

Also, because the base OBJs are reworked for the girls, the morphs will transfer and work, but you won't get the same effect.

duanemoody ( ) posted Wed, 01 August 2001 at 6:09 PM

OK, I see what you mean. Given that the .CR2 format only stores the deltas it stands to reason an app like MM would do that. However, my observation about the kids' ForeheadFlat dial working more smoothly than the Vicky version underlines the point that they customized many of the dials. Interesting coincidence that the kids went on sale the same day MorphWorld went back online, eh?
