I dont understand. In Susan Kitchens' book says that we can write in grayscale and make 3D letters with it at Bruce. I spent hours on this, but why are my white letters rendering as sharp mountains? Shouldn't they make beautiful letters with no irregularities?!!!!! Please help :-) Thanks in advance, Luis

On the right side of the texture editor, you will see a bar with what looks like this on the side } only bigger. lol with your curser pull down from the top and then up from the bottom on that and the mountains will turn into your letters. It takes a little practice on how much you want to draw down the letters but it works for me. lol Im just begining so Im not really good at explaining, but I hope this helps.

Another way to get 3D Letters in Bryce is EleFont. Neat little application. (not sure if it's in free stuff here or not). It will use almost any font on your system and create the OBJ file for import into Bryce. Very slick.

A trick I do is use photoshop, set my image size to 220x220 pixels at 150 dpi and greyscale tiff file, make my type white, which you have done and background black also which you have done. Then when imported into the TE first thing set the grid resolution to atleast 512 and then hit the smooth button once, then use the clipping bracket to mask out the background, I also create a symetrical lattice before I do that, and replace the lattice's terrain with my imported text.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

Luis - here is how I do it...works nicely for me. 1st, do the text in whatever program you use...I use photoshop, apply a gaussian blur (I like gaussian, others will argue this point...but it works for me!) In this case I used a blur radius of 1.5px. Save as a jpg (once again, I use jpgs because the have more color info...and with gradients they are very nice! DON'T use compression!) Plop down a terrain and go into the editor. Now for the fun part! Set the pic so that it is your original and alpha channel (load the first image into the slot, copy, paste into the alpha.) Now, make the texture solid! If you don't you'll only get an outline when you go to play with the clipping. Play with the clipping until you get something to your liking. You're done! Jared P.S. I wrote this so everyone could understand it...from the looks of it, Luis, you already know how to do most of this stuff...but just incase anyone else wanted to know how do to text...

RimRunner: When I heard about EleFont in your post I just had to search it out. Yes indeed it is a very cool little program.

Yeah, the best part is: it's FREEEEEE I like it when something neat like that gets released to the public free. :) Real fun if you get some of those cute Fonts out there. Bones, Cartoon, Tolken style runes, etc., etc. (included above is a link to Google, searching on FONTS. Lol). - James PS: Thanks for posting the link to Elefont too. Forgot to do that one myself. ;)

Thanks for all the feedback people. But... I already use the the bar on the right side to delete the bottom and the top of the mountains. But the letters turn EMPTY! Yes, just outlines of the letter. Jared mentions "solid textures" to avoid the outlines and gain solid letters. But how do I do that? Thanks in advance, Luis

Luis - there should be a little drop down menu thingy in bryce (in B5 it's on the top of the terrain editor, in B4 it's on the bottom) just click it and select solid. That should do it for ya! Jared
