I've just finished my own 3D site and you're very welcome to visit it. I have galleries with my designs and other 3d images made with programs such as poser, rhino, 3ds max, ... I also have some free downloads. Please visit the "Help me out"-page, as this is the main reason why I've set up this website. See you soon!

A little Beta report here. The Navigation links on the front page were not working for me. (PC, NS-4.73 with no Flash, no Java)

Thanks for saying me this. It's probably because you have your java turned off. You might consider switching it on, LOTS of sites are using it, even for simple things such as a roll-over image.

Same for me. "Active scripting" is off and I do not want to turn it on, because there are some really bad javascripts in the wild (and it helps to avoid popups, LOL). I think, you should include an alternate html-navigation. Robert

Well, I got all the potentially nasty-enabling javastuff turned on , and the navigation links still don't work.

Re: the "help me out" part... really very lazy college type of students that can't do their own research and want it all given to 'em.

Re: the "help me out" part... really very lazy college type of students that can't do their own research and want it all given to 'em. You know, I've seen some rude friggin' statements around here, but this one really takes it. Jeesh.......

If this helps any..... I've noticed a few Mac-oriented 3d programs thrown out there for free, as a result of iMac being released, I suppose, since the timing was pretty coincidental. Among the ones I've found (all on computer and 3D art magazines from the UK that I would imagine are difficult to find in the States) are Pixels3D, Amapi, Strata3D, Amorphium, and even older versions of Bryce and Poser -- generally when a new version of any of these comes available. They have all been fully functional and arrived with manuals (in pdf format), and only in one occasion did I find getting the serial number online a pain in the butt (Pixels refused to believe my Mac could have a zero in the machine code, and it took three or four months before they finally admitted there was a problem with their registration software). What I've found is that each of these has a specialized function that makes it appealing for generating a particular type of model: Strata, for example, is the easiest for creating extruded and rotated models (I even find using the version of Strata that pre-dated Strata 3D -- and I'm sorry, but I can't remember the name of it at the moment, but I can look it up if you're interested -- far easier than StrataPro.). Amapi -- great at creating models with odd little pieces here and there that would be a challenge in any other organic-centred software. And what usually happens, for me anyway, is that I wind up building my models in another program, exporting them as dxfs or some other format into Bryce, and then using it for the master render. I do this because Bryce's lighting controls are impressively subtle. I know there are a few other small-time 3d programs available for free, but to be honest, they're usually not worth the time or download space, either because they can't handle the level of detail I prefer to see in my work or else because I have programs that can do it far better. Hope that helps, bud. Good luck.

Hmmm, it seems like there must be some problem with the site for netscape users. Perhaps I'll try to create another, more simple kind of navigation to avoid these problems. Atthisstage, thanks a lot for this information, I really appreciate this and I believe it's a great start for me. I live in Belgium and I have seen some UK 3D magazines in the stores, perhaps even the ones you're mentioning. Petunia, it's my opionion that it wouldn't be wise to just enter "free modelling software" in some search engine and see what happens. Doing this would lead me to a lot of useless pages and I would overlook or miss important sites. Asking people that are involved in the 3D community for information is much wiser, as they just KNOW a lot of the information I need, they have the information together AND they can lead me to other sites. Doing research for school ALWAYS includes bothering other people, no matter what kind of subject you're studying; sometimes you have to perform tests on people, sometimes you have to make a survey, etc. I'm just very glad and thankful A LOT of people are willing to help me or students in general out. By the way, I wouldn't call it "lazy" if you know that I've set this website up to gather some information, TWO MONTHS BEFORE the actual task starts.
