Subject: Compression of textures for web downloading

I need some advice. I am in the process of creating a web site. The content will include textures, models, tutorials, etc. The ISP package I am presently looking at is for 45 MB. I am only 1/20 fnished my site and I have over 163 MB of textures and thumbnails. My textures are typically around 800x600 to 1024x768 in TIF format. They are around 1-3 MEG. If I zip them I only gain around 17% to 25%. If I convert them to JPG at minimum compression I reduce the file size to about 1/3. If I then run the JPG through JPG Optimizer at a setting of 70 I can reduce a 3Meg Tif to 240 K. My question is what would be acceptable? Would a compressed JPG be usable to you? smerc

heya; most of the textures for downloading are jpgs; not just for size, but also for cross-platform compatibility. so that is not a problem.
