If you're in a hurry, you can look over my ancient (and Bryce-y) tutorial. Just ignore the Bryce stuff. What you're working with is the SDTS type of DEM file. It has to be converted to an ASCII type DEM (which is covered in the tute). The old standard DEMs import nicely in Vue4. http://www.big-i.com/tutorials/DEMs.html Martin and I are just getting started on a new set of tutorials based on Vue4 and the current DEM standards. We hope to post something in a few weeks.
Hi John, I use mostly 1 Degree DEM's and they work fine in Vue 4. What I do is first decompress the DEM's in 3DEM, then merge them as a giant DEM and then import them in Vue. I am working on a Grand Canyon scenery out of 25 DEM's and it works fine. Check out this listing of 7.5 Minute DEM's here: http://www.timster.net/maps/states.htm Cheers!

Hello Everyone, Does anyone use, or has anyone ever tried DEM files? I tried to download one from a USGS site. There were many files. I don't even know what I downloaded... I think someplace in California. Anyway, Vue wouldn't accept the format I downloaded (dff??), and I wasn't sure if all files get loaded or not. I'm wondering if there are any tutorials on the topic?..... Thanks for your time, John
