I've made some 3kx3k pixel textures and before rendering I make the bump map with the texture itself: greyscale+negative+sharpen... The texture jpgs are about 950kb at 90% quality, the bump at the same quality, colour reduced to about 50 colours, comes out to 1.5M ! What the... ??? I intend to put them up as free downloads but the total sizes are getting ridiculous. What should I do? Also, I would have liked to package the bum file itself but Poser creates a 26M bum file out of the 1.5M bump.jpg! Is there a solution for this? It would be great so my mat pose files would work without the user converting the jpg to bum beforehand. fanksinadvance :)

Poser bump map format is uncompressed. You might want to have them as JPEG with conversion instructions.

ok, so i definitely can't package the bum file... does anyone have a solution to how to reduce the bump jpg filesize? should i package the bump jpg at all? i need to get this resolved cos someone's waiting for the texture... :)

Actually uncompressed files zip up pretty well.

hmm, of course! thanks, i'll see how big it is. at this time i am planning on only having the texture jpg and a readme in the zip. but if i can put in the bum file i would also put in the pz2 mat pose! didn't want to put up anything in excess of 1M for a mere texture set! the reason i didn't want to upload such big files for others to download is cos i will be prevailing upon another person's generosity in hosting my freebies. 3-darena.com to be precise. not cos i think my work is so great everyone will want it, i just know how freebie collectors are cos i'm one of them, we'll download it anyway regardless of the quality! ;) thanks for replying Jeff. :)
