Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 20 7:34 am)
ROFL Dinoasaurs can be cute... I think it should be an image because of the varying skill levels.. Maybe nominating a few props that HAVE to be included in the image...(they abound a plenty in the free stuff) I do post work on my images but to keep the playing field a bit more level (again the diff skill levels) it might be best to keep it to a poser only image. Theme could be one of choice as long as the props are used and viewable. PS I pinched this idea from 3D Arena LOL

I agree that the playing field should be kept level by making it a No Post Work challenge. It would certainly be a challenge for me to do one without postwork! LOL! I ALWAYS postwork my images....might be fun to see if I can do one without doing postwork. The prop challenge would be new for me as I was not allowed to enter the 3-D Arena challenge because I am an affliate. LOL! Other ideas: 1. An image that the user feels represents Renderosity to them. (leaves the challenge a little more interesting and creatively challenging.) 2. A Poser re-creation of a particular face/person/object/whatever. (Pick a face/person/object/whatever...any face/person/object/whatever and post a pic of it.) 3. A page from a homeade comic or graphic novel. 4. Post a excerpt from a novel (any novel...but should be a good one. LOL!) and let everyone try and recreate it. There's a few ideas from me. :o)
atthisstage your idea is good but it would almost certainly eliminate beginner users.. If only one contest is held then it has to be something all can have a go at... Well that's what I think.. We could have two contests.. Advanced and beginner.

I'd rather have a contest where the skill levels weren't quite as important as the imagination and creativity involved. Morphing and magnetwork take a fair amount of experience with Poser, and are daunting for beginners. If everyone can play, you might get more entries. "Reflections" as a theme can be broadly or narrowly interpreted. An expert could manipulate funhouse mirrors and all the morphs whereas a beginner might be happy to get his feet wet. Another interesting theme could be the "Borderland" between reality and surreality (something which we cross all the time, but may not have taken time to examine). Everything from the cynicism of a realtor selling surreal estate to the pain and innocence of Stevenson's "In the Land of Counterpane" to pure abstraction would be included... as long as it features the moment of transition. If you would like an idea a bit more concrete, how about castles? Sand castles, cloud castles, cold stone or spun glass castles... with a Poser figure interacting somehow. Carolly
Holidays! Halloween is not too far away. Then, Thansgiving, then Christmas, then New Years Day then Groundhog Day... ;-> then Mardi Gras...the possibilities are endless.. Themes: Seasons, Months, Historical Events, Movies, Movie/TV Star, Favorite TV Show, Rock Bands, Poser in Space, Futuristic, Famous Artists and Models (in the artists' style), Flora and Fauna, Scenes from Novels, (real and fictitious characters) Mythology: Egyptian, Greek, Roman, others...way to use the recent marble column, gladiator outfits, and other stuff from the free stuff area. Amusement Parks, Fairgrounds, Carnivals...ways to use that new Carousel. Mad Scientist...op to create characters, props Time Travel - Poser visits the real Jurassic era or skin dives in Silurian seas, (got the AK plesiosaur?)... What if...some historical event turned out differently... Specific contests to create a new character, new textures for existing things, new props, etc. The contests should be open to all levels...could be judged on creativity (originality and inventiveness) amongst other things... Beginners should not be eliminated. The contest could be the impetus for a beginner to get really involved with Poser. Or, for a more seasoned artist to try a new method. Contest announcement, then 2 week deadlines would permit more contests to be held. Not everyone will be entering every contest, so it would be possible for more than one to be running at any time. I used to do creative programming, so if you need more help, e-mail me MJ
heyas; the vague themes (and holidays) are better than the specific stuff (make a face, use this prop). no postwork sucks :) um.... but okay, a poser contest is a poser contest. so does that mean you cant render in another program? (max, lightwave, vue, bryce...) have you thought about splitting the contest into different categories? perhaps not beginner/advanced, but stills/animation? character creation, prop creation? (okay, i stole those ideas from the pfo pose this contest.)
Oh, and just when I finally got good modelling dinosaurs....Let's see...I liked the "castles". Castles can be so very broad...parts of castles, like the walls, columns, people inside, furniture, tapestries....It could even have something for everyone's unique skills. Might be hard to judge, though....but, hey now...I could squeeze in my dinosaurs and call 'em "griffons". Pop...pop...pop!!!
Yeah, I'm with Poppi, I like the castles theme. Or maybe create a poster for a fictional movie. That would invovle post work though for the compositing of the images.

I don't mind the Castles theme. But where would people get them from? This might be a really strange Idea. But it's one I've never seen before. What about a "Cutest Picture" contest? Using anything you like as long as it's a Poser render with no postwork. Can anyone expand on that? Or are you folks more into serious art? ScottA P.S.- We are going to have a Halloween contest in October. So Halloween is out for a theme.
Don't forget this post http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12369&Form.ShowMessage=365318 Many vendors have offered stuff as prizes.

Hello Memebers: It's been a while since we've had a Poser contest here. So I would like to do something about that. I'm sure we could get some good prizes for it as well. I need to know what kind of contest you would all like to have. Things like weather or not post work is allowed, If there should be a theme of some sort, etc,etc.... Don't leave it up to me to decide. Or It'll be a Godzilla and Dinosaurs only contest ;-) ScottA
