My apologies if this has been discussed before, but I felt it was interesting (and somewhat amusing). I think the market stall holders here may know about this already. I was also going to find a link on the evolution of stars, but time presses and I must head off for work.

April, CuriousLabs is based in Santa Clara, CA and they make Poser the program. DAZ/Zygote is a company in Utah which makes models in a format which conveniently work with this program. The companies work together, and are probably quite dependent upon each other's success to do well in return, but are separate entities. Carolly

Nope. DAZ and Curious Labs are two different companies. CL makes Poser and came into being when MetaCreations dumped all it's graphics applications. DAZ on the other hand, makes the models that we use in Poser and was originally the poser department of Zygote before striking out on their own. DAZ is located in Draper, UT and Curious Labs is located in Santa Cruz, CA.

OOops, Poppi - it was a typo. I meant Cruz. Must have had Clara on the brain. :)

LOL...well, they ARE neighbors ;)

yup :) and they both start with Santa

Thanks for the link PJF, it looks like CL have finally copped on to the fact that there is both more and a constant stream of revenue from the Poser Accessories Market than there is from the sale of the Program itself. This was tried in a very limited fashion in Poser 4 with links to the few commercial Poser makers that existed then. However, with the blossoming of Poser Stores it may well be worth CL's time milking this market in a more organised fashion. It might also help to fast-track Poser's acceptance into mainstream commercial usage by virtue of the ever-expanding range of quality products available for it. And the competition cannot hurt the users. I am sure that this plan causes mixed emotions among the various site managements, on the one hand the potential of increasing exposure, membership and sales income, and on the other, the prospect of CL eventually dominating and controlling the brokerage market with its database integration into Poser itself. Interesting times! STORM

Oops! Well, they both start with Santa... and MetaCreations or FractalDesign used to be over there somewhere (I remember driving past their offices). Carolly

Well, if anyone could dominate you would think TurboSquid would rule the world. I think that fairness will win out in the end and sites like Rosity stand to gain. Rosity just treats it's artists better 50/50 split. I haven't had the pleasure of having the screws put to me but I understand that other sites aren't quite so generous. At least I've heard this is true. DAZ has some nice stuff but if they treated the artists better you'd think that everyone would broker through them. Another thing. I model in LW and cut my teeth on Strata. Modeling is just plain old time consuming. Time = Money. Few companies can afford to staff up to produce huge 3D libraries. Renderosity will always have much more to offer if artists instead of marketing gurus run the show. Besides the free stuff here ROCKS. PFO ? well, it's worth a trip over occasionally.

I hate the idea of a commercial interface cluttering up the place. This stuff belongs on the web not on my machine. What's next? Popup Commercials. Maybe they will give Poser away if you'll let them put a banner ad at the top. I think this is a screwy idea.
