Subject: POSER TEXTURE MAP EXPORT PROBLEMS

petes ( ) posted Sat, 08 September 2001 at 12:10 AM · edited Sun, 26 January 2025 at 10:22 PM

I'm exporting the file from poser as a wavefront .obj file. Poser place the obj file and an .mtl file in the folder that contains the Carrara file. Then I place a copy of the .bum and .jpg file in the same folder. I then import it into Carrara as a wavefront file with the default setting. When I go to render nothing shows up?! What am I doing wrong? Also, is it even possible to import transparancy maps from poser into Carrara? The hair comes in like molded hair! Thanks for your help!

lightwave, photoshop, oreo's...tools of the trade.

I've exported poser scenes to carrara without problems (excepting the transparency). it will work if you export the obj file (with only "as morph target" unchecked) to a folder (containing all texture maps) on the same level as the carrara folder, then import to carrara using defaults. if the textures don't appear in the render, it may be a memory issue, or you may have forgotten some, or have name problems between the files in your folder and the mtl file. I've found Carrara needs a minimum of 200 MB physical RAM, and one should avoid using virtual memory (Mac OS 9). the transparency issue is very tricky, and depends on whether it's hair, eyes, or other items. I've been waiting for somebody else to write it up ... no luck so far. I would also like to have a FAQ for this forum, but I don't have time to volunteer for that, either 8-(
