Subject: Another annoying question...Mirror?

Okay, so I made a flat box and put it on a wall, and now I want it to reflect as a mirror. REading the docs seems to assure me this is possible..yet all I seem to be able to achieve is nothing at all reflective in the least. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr What's the deal? -Darth_Logice

You can't do a mirror in poser. You can in bryce with no problem. -Trav

The reflections that poser does are not real reflections, as poser has no raytracer. You can play games by mapping a render from the position of the mirror onto the box on the wall, but otherwise you need to go to a program with a better render engine.

You can simulate a mirror in Poser by using a render of your scene as the reflection map, but nothing like true raytracing. Paul Hafeli has a method in which he duplicates a scene in reverse and sets it up opposite the regular one to look like a mirror. -JH.

Hi Folks! JeffH's suggestion about faking mirror effects in Poser is worth pursuing. I would also suggest trying this: Add a thin (small z coordinates) rectangular prop--or a thin duplicate of whatever shape you've modelled your mirror--as a layer, apply a light linear gradient or metallic texture to it, and set the transparency settings to 96-99%. The idea is to replicate the natural sheen that all mirrors have, sort of like the glare your monitor shows when it's turned off. It took me several sessions with Infini-D and RDS before I captured that effect, but the result is much more realistic. Without something like it, your figure just looks like he/she is looking at a twin in a window. Hope this helps. Peter (Dr Zik)
