heyas; have you guys seen the tentacle and whips and stuff by ajax? really hella cool. (if you knew all about it, why didnt you tell ME!?) ajax has made posing long tubular things much easier with what he calls the 'easy pose' method. it's basically rc..whatever (what did they decide jcm stuff should be called?) (i just call 'em master and slave dials, but dont think anybody would go for calling it poser s&m.) anyway, the body part rotation dials are slaved to a base controller part (or parts), so that turning one dial on one body part will get the rope/whip/tentacle/tail/tube to coil up or curl around or twist, etc etc. ajax also came up with another cool trick that i didnt think of... i actually did use it, but didn't think to do it on other things. if you substitute 'r/lhand' or 'head' in the cr2 for certain body parts, you can get the face and hand cameras to work with them. you dont need to name things in your obj as hand/head, just the internal poser names. pretty spiffy!

I'm hoping someone wants to make this easypose thing work with the DAZ octopus, but Ajax doesn't wanna so I may have to...sigh... That face/hand camera thingy could be very entertaining if misused. heh.

Oh, that Ajax. He's just such a stubborn stick in the mud. You're breakin' my heart, Mary-Canary. Tell you what, drop me a note and we'll see if we can work something out. I should warn you though, that it's going to involve you buying me a copy of that octopus and until I've played with the model I can't guarantee the quality of the end result. In the renders I've seen, the tentacle segments look too long to me, but I can send you a list of questions about it and maybe we can get a handle on roughly how well it will work before we commit to doing it. I can't offer better than that. Is it good enough?

Sounds great to me. I'll make some renders for you so you can get a ballpark idea of whether it'll work for you, and then I'll be happy to buy you the octo in exchange for one copy of your easypose version of it, whenever you get time to make it. yay! (spending money is easy; posing is HARD!) MaryCanary

oh you can email me at mary@canary3d.com

I just did a quick posing test and you may be right about segment length. Verry chunky.

Yep, that's pretty much what I was afraid of. So there are six segments per tentacle? Can I see another pic just the same but with the mesh shown? How about you zip up the cr2 (check they kept the mesh separate first - DAZ usually do) and send it to me. I'll try to get one tentacle working next week and you can try it out to see what you think.
