THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: General lighting Q for the Bryce experts - how to make (fake) more suns?

Hi, all Could someone offer suggestions on circumventing one of Bryce's shortcomings when compared to Vue (please, no religious wars, I use and love both, although Bryce is my oldest love ;-) ). The problem is the lack of multiply suns (or directional lights in Vue-speak), when one wants to set up one's own global ambient light, or perhaps multiple suns, or massive explosions in a space battle. Quite a few images in the galleries here and on the Bryce Forum seems to have solved the problem. How do all you Bryce wizards do it ?

...'scuse me, I should've written THE ILLUMINATION from multiple suns or massive explosions in my examples above. What I'm after is a way to have two (or any number of) global, directional light sources in a scene (sort of infinite area lights...).

I most of the time just add them manually to the scene and push them way back into the scene and I make sure that they are set to no fall-off with the settings set at 1-2-3 I also tweak out the colors to match the scene, and most of the times in this case I have disable shadows for these lights,a good rule of thumb is too also backlight your models to give the illusion of realism for global lighting...here is a small example of what I am talking about....The lens flare was made by Fast Traxx

I also use the lights in land scenes too and some times I will disable the sunlight so I can add my own lights just because the light from the sun is not right...also another trick I learned was flipping the ground plane adding the galaxy texture(thru the deep texture editor)and adding lights real close to the plane so close that you can regulate the spot of light showing up on the plane and it can be tweaked out so it does look like multiple suns you can have as many as you want then but make sure you at least leave one of the lights with the disable sunlight not checked so at least you will get the shadows right...here is an land example of me useing seven lights in a scene while the disable sun/moon was used...

Also there is a tutorial in the bryce section here on renderosity or on Brycetech that is an excellent tut on multiple suns....hope I was understanding what you were talking about

Thanx for the ideas - knew'em, but damn, I didn't know they could work that well! I've got a lot to learn. Thanx for sharing the land scene above, Foley - brings back fond memories of moonbase Alpha, if you're old enough to have spent some time with commander Koenig and his crew ;-9 And Brycetech : that twin sun image sure looks VERY hot - but my prime worry would be getting a good night's sleep. I mean, at the end of the day, it would most likely be - morning ;-)
