Subject: Newbie question - deforming vertex objects with bump maps?

nyar1ath0tep ( ) posted Wed, 31 October 2001 at 12:33 PM · edited Thu, 18 July 2024 at 11:38 AM

I've been reading this forum for about a week, and I've seen many helpful tips from Litst and the other experts here.

I am wondering if there is a way in Carrara to deform any vertex object by applying a 2D bump map. I saw a reference to an old Ray Dream plug-in (SuperMesh) which may be used to deform a terrain (plane) in a manner like the Carrara terrain editor, but I would like to deform an object like a Poser human head that has been mapped parametrically.

Supermesh costs about $80.00 & is very nice. Anything Grooves 2 is what you want from: http://digitalcarversguild.com This thing is great for displacement maps, check the tuts at Ericks site & look at Mark Bremmers MBGroove shaders to get a general idea of what you can do.
