Ive known Photo.net for quite some time now and they do have lots of great pics one could use. But... Did you read their terms of use? Heres an excerpt (esp. the last part of the text is interesting): "Ownership of Submitted Material. All material You submit to any of our chat rooms, forums, and other public posting areas becomes the property of photo.net and may be reproduced, modified, and distributed as we see fit in any medium and for any purpose. photo.net claims no ownership rights in any image contained in any of your Photo albums. With regard to material you include in a public album, you grant a non-exclusive, world-wide, royalty free license to modify, publish and reproduce said material solely for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting photo.net" Just to let you know... Maxx :-)
Heres a little addition to that: "Protection of Others. The Internet allows people throughout the world to share valuable information, ideas, and creative works. To ensure continued open access to such materials, users need to protect the rights of those who share their creations on photo.net. Although we make the Site freely accessible, we don't intend to give up our rights, or anyone else's rights, to the materials appearing on the Site. The materials available through the Site are the property of photo.net or its licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. But You may not otherwise reproduce any of the materials without the prior written consent of the owner. You may not distribute copies of materials found on the Site in any form (including by email or other electronic means), without prior written permission from the owner. Of course, You are free to encourage others to access the information themselves on the Site and to tell them how to find it. Requests for permission to reproduce or distribute materials found on the Site should be sent to 80 Prospect St Cambridge MA 02139 or business@photo.net." As for a comparison with Renderosity, or any other creative site, I for sure wouldnt like others to use my material without my concent. Why cant we just consider other peoples work copyrighted, unless expressly stated otherwise. Makes a lot of issues much less complicated....
maxx... jam said 'public domain.' that means it's released to the public for use, without copyrights. although your second quote, there, seems to contradict that. so i dunno what they mean :/ the first bit sounds like the yahoo/geocities blanket agreement that they own the stuff you put on their servers.

This is a link to a community of photographers. Many post their works for public domain use just as we have freestuff in our community. Enjoy the link and get to know some of these good folks. I've seen a lot of stuff that would make excellent textures and backdrops. Please post back here what you think.
