It also occurred to me that government agencies also carry a lot of public domain photos. Here's a few (I've yet to see what they might have that's useful): National Fish & Wildliffe: http://pictures.fws.gov/ http://images.fws.gov/index.html Dept of Interior (Links to U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service) http://www.doi.gov/oirm/photolib/ NOAA: www.photolib.noaa.gov/ USGS: www.usgs.gov/fact-sheets/photographic-library/photographic-library.html USDA: www.usda.gov/oc/photo/opchomea.htm NASA: spacelink.nasa.gov/Instructional.Materials/Multimedia/NASA.Pictures.Photographs.and.Images/ nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/photo_gallery/ You could also go to www.first.gov and do a search for "photos"
http://www.photo.net/ Many of these are portfolios posted by people in a community like ours only for photographers. Some have restrictions for haneous commercial use like some of our free stuff. Some of the photographers just want to be recognized or asked or just want a slice of the pie should you make money.

I found that 3dcafe has free photos that should work nicely with the backdrop tool, some requiring minimal cropping/sizing/etc. If you know of others, preferrably with little or no licensiing restrictions, post 'em here too! http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/photographs.asp Here's the applicable license restrictions: "All of the models/texture maps/software (referred herein as "datasets") available on 3DCAFE for download may be used royalty-free in your own work if you give proper credit to 3DCAFE.COM (i.e., Some models provided by 3DCAFE.com). If any of the datasets available on 3DCAFE are to be used commercially, you must contact us for licensing agreements. "
