Subject: Looking for input about constructing my website

droyd ( ) posted Tue, 27 November 2001 at 9:14 PM ยท edited Mon, 05 August 2024 at 7:22 AM

Hi Everyone, My friend and I are working my website and I wanted to ask everybody for their comments on what they like and dislike about websites in general. He's the webmonger I'm just offering opinions and helping him where I can. The first thing I can think of is should it be 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768? Any and all comments about what makes a good website versus a bad one are welcome. Thanks in advance. droyd

I make them for 1024 X 768 but make sure that they still work at the smaller size. What I dislike? Webpages that do not work properly. Blocking me form visiting because I do not have microdot stuff on my computer. Get them to at least check there pages. You can check them here: http://validator.w3.org/

I like Pete's response, especially in regard to validating the code. But also want to draw your attention to the HTML forum here at Renderosity (follow the link). It's the best place to talk HTML/web/scripting etc. :)

I like a dark background (but that's just me ;)). I DON'T like overuse of frames! 1 is okay for navigation or something, but more than that is overkill. That's about the only thing I don't like (except maybe a million and one spinning, moving gif animations - soooo tacky ;)). Laurie

Despite his anti-graphics views, you can pick up some immensely important principles on user-friendliness on www.useit.com. Having run a branch of my firm's intranet for more than a year, I have experienced increased use of "my" pages every time I applied one more of the www.useit's principles.
