Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
Any item created in a newer version of Poser than yours will display that message when you try to use/load it. If you are using Poser 4 out of the box, pop over to Curious Labs and download the 4.03 patch. This not only fixes a few problems with Poser, but also stops most of these messages from nagging at you as a lot of the items you can download are created in Poser 4.03. People who own ProPack create items with a 4.2 version number, and this will throw up error messages for anyone with an earlier version of Poser, it's a simple matter to edit that as it's at the top of the file. All they need to do is open the pp2/cr2/hr2/whatever file in a text editor and change 4.3 to 4.0 and the message goes away. Alternatively if you don't want to download the 4.03 patch - though I really advise you do... When you load the character, prop or whatever is giving you this error, just save it back into the library you got it from by using the Add (small + sign at the bottom of the library screen) and the next time you use that item you won't get the error. Hope that helps. :)

Hi everyone. I am very new to Poser. I've only been doing this for about 3 days. I have a question about an error message I keep getting and I don't know what exactly is causing it. The message reads, "The file has a newer version number than expected. Poser will attempt to read it anyway." Now I get this when I'm trying to apply a preset that I downloaded. Most of the time it's with hair. Sometimes with faces. A lot of times it will go ahead and put the hair or face on but you can't edit it and sometimes it just crashes Poser and I have to start over. Do any of you know what would cause this? Thanks for your help! Kacy
