Subject: Bryce obj importing problem

ZeroBase ( ) posted Sun, 02 December 2001 at 7:37 AM ยท edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 8:24 PM

I'm having a problem importing an obj from poser into Bryce 5. The obj gets mostly loaded, then I get an error message saying bad i/o or bad media. So, I loaded the obj into uvmapper, and saved it using the default settings. Now the obj loads, but it's not referencing the material file. So basicly I have a worthless gray obj, that I am unable to asign the textures. I opened up the Obj files (the original and the one saved from uvmapper) and noticed that the uvmapper one doesn't reference the .mtl file that poser exported with the obj. What am I doing wrong? I've read other people had success running an obj through uvmapper. How do I save the obj to include references to the .mtl file like the original obj file? Thanks -ZeroBase

Think, save from uvmapper to the old objfileplace and -name.( let it overwrite the old one)

Thanks, but that didn't change anything. It's still not referencing the mtl file, and is only loading in a gray model. It doesn't even ask me to locate the textures, and I can't edit them in the materials.

Attached Link: http://www.castironflamingo.com/tutorial/grouper/index.html

You need another tool you can dl at the link, its free. load the obj-file you get from uvmapper in grouper.do nothing with it but convert.you get a new file ,import that file in bryce, when importing bryce asks for the *.mtl file THAN CLICK TO THE OLD MTL YOU GOT FROM POSER, and everything works normal.

I don't have Bryce, but occasionally have trouble importing textured .obj files into other programs. Are all of your files (obj, mtl, textures) in the same directory? This often solves the problem for me.

Nice to hear you got it working

You can also simply copy the mtllib line from the old model to the one exported from UVMapper. Steve
