Subject: What is best Monitor for use with XP & Adobe 6.0?

digitaljohnny ( ) posted Tue, 04 December 2001 at 11:04 PM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 1:47 PM

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 1.8 Ghz with 256 MB R-Dram with the Geforce 3 64MB Nvidia graphics card. Well I bought a Samsung Synchmaster 900NF and the picture quality stinks. Everything in Photoshop is dark or bland even if I emmulate Photoshop 4 images from my prior version. What is the best 19" graphics monitor that I can buy for Photoshop 6 images? I really need some help. Please... John

Its all subjective. Preferably, you want a monitor that will give you some control over the screens colours, contrast and brightness. I dunno what the heck is wrong with your monitor. best bet is to take some files into a store, and tell them you wanna drop a few dollars, but only if you can test it out first. Bring it on zip or cd, should be fine, and uncompressed jpegs should do the trick. Find one that suits your liking. If I had your setup though man, whoa, i dunno, Id be pretty pleased personally.

I use a Korea Data Systems Visual Sensations monitor. It's not high end or anything, but it works for me. One thing you really need to do is to set your gamma in photoshop to the adobe gamma. Plus, make sure your monitor's color, conrats, brightness, etc are properly set. I don't know if the Nvidia g force has the option, but my ATI all in one card gives me several options to set gamma, which I have set to photoshop gamma. Click on your empty desktop, go to properties, settings, then click on advanced and look for a tab that says color management or something like. You may have to search for the gamma setting, but it'll be either in your video card files or in your photoshop files. I'm using Adobe RGB 1998 as a gamma setting. Also, make sure your monitor is properly installed. Just adding a monitor doesn't install it. Windows will simply use the default monitor settings. That should't make a huge difference, but it could make a difference.

Talent is God's gift to you. Using it is your gift to God.

Look at Mitsubishi and go for a 22-inch. The Monitor that has consistently got the best ratings in most PC mags and was top of the heap for the last year or more is the Mitsubishi 1245u. I just bought its' successor (Diamond Pro 2060u) and it is superb and will do me for years. If it is too pricey look at their 19-inch ones. I have a Mitsubishi 17-inch Trinitron as well and in the last three years never a bother and it still produces a fantastic clear and crisp picture. STORM
