Subject: Suggestion to make Gallery Ratings to 1-10

DerekG ( ) posted Mon, 20 December 1999 at 2:22 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 1:49 AM

Hey there all. I posted this as a comment to gallery ratings and thought I'd suggest it here too. It would be easier to rate a pic that's in the upper numbers with the following: n/a or * - allows artist to reply to a question or comment 1 - nobody will get a one... I hope 2, 3 - you just got this software didn't you? 4, 5 - getting better but average 6 - higher average 7 - I like your stuff! 8 - Hmmm, is your Poser model available for some porno...er..tasteful renders? 9 - I just kissed my monitor... and liked it 10 - Handel's Messiah begins to play as you are immediately transported to Nirvanna. Any comments?

I would leave the 1 to 5 scale in place but leave more room for comments. Christine

The main reason for me to have a 1-10 scale is to get a clearer picture on the upper end of ratings. Many pieces are given 5s where as 4s are reserved for "almost great." With a 1-10 you now have the option of starting with 6 as "almost great" going all the way up to 10 which would be "the best of the best." The biggest question of gallery ratings is how much critique do you really want to see? Since there is a wide diversity of both amateur and professional artists here critiques can be taken the wrong way if a person isn't used to it. I've seen some members requesting more critique info so they can improve their work. Having a 1 to 10 rating system will help with that.

I'd get rid of the ratings system completely--the contributors need real feedback and not some arbitrary number that pops into one's head after seeing a few dozen images. The numbers reveal far less than the comments, and for those people who recieve 5's across the board--a comment would be far greater in helping them than just another 5 (or a 10)

I'm kinda hoping with a 10 being the best it will be harder to attain. A 5 to me is well... just a 5 and doesn't quite convey the "best of the best". Then again it just depends on the tone of the gallery. Is it there for show and critque or just "here's what I've done lately." If it's the latter then maybe getting rid of ratings all together would be better. Comments?
