Attached Link: http://www.lostamerica.com

Night photography link - the photographer's site specializes in night images of ghost towns in the American west. Most of these towns are fairly recently abandoned - 1940's, 1950's, 1960's.

The site also includes night scenes of old airplane graveyards, junked vehicles, ruined drive-in theaters, and more. Sort of an after-image of the American dream.....

He also has tons of links to other night photography websites.

A good site to visit in the wolf hours.

Thanks, Xeno! You're freakin' me, here. Of all the shots on my last roll of film, there is one shot (the best of two takes) that everyone that I show is fascinated with. It's an 8min at f/8 moonlit shot of my house (the 'Little Slum on the Prarie'). Several people have told me that I should look into doing more of this night photography. This seems to be a providential time for you to post this link. Thank you again, Xenophonz, for thinking of us. I gotta run to church now, but I'll post the aformentioned night shot this afternoon - with some stats. Joe

OK, here's a scan. I havn't had time to do any post work -- I'm not sure what I'd do with it. I dunno; it looks better on the photographic print - lots more shadow detail. I should try this with B&W film - wider exposure lattitude, right? I decided on f/5.6 on the Rokkor 58mm for sharpest possible focus (turns out that's the aperature that the guy on the Lost America site says he always uses, but he's sportin' a wide angle lens). I used a LunaPro light meter to take an incident reading - the moon was between full and quarter; clear sky. Based on the 100ASA film speed (Fuji print film), it said to go with four minutes. I set up the shot on a heavy tripod, covered the whole camera with a heavy black silk scarf, opened the shutter on the SRt101, stopped the cable release from swinging, and removed the scarf. after 4min I put the scarf back before touching the cable release. It was freezing out, so I'm actually walking through the shot TWICE - I went into the house during the exposure, and came back out the door to close the shutter. Hope you all find this interesting, Joe

This is so cool. Designshed; that image is stunning. I'd love to see a photographic print of that one. I'm going out right now. It snowed all day, and the bare trees in the woods are heavy with wet snow. It's still snowing. There's a thick, low overcast, and the sodium city lights from toward town (just a mile away) are illuminating everything by reflecting off the clouds. I regret, though, that I'm running Fuji 800 right now. I'll post'em when they're processed. Joe
