Subject: Trimming bloated file sizes--a quick tut

This ain't exactly a new trick but I've noticed a lot of newbies lately and thought I'd stick it in here. This technique will DRASTICALLY reduce your file sizes. 1. If you don't already have it, download MorphManger at the link (unless you're some sadistic sole that enjoys the gruelling task of editing files in a text editor). 2. Make note of all the morphs you aren't using in your pz3 file. 3. Load the pz3 in MorphManger and delete all the morphs you aren't using. 4. Save. You can also delete all the morphs you never use in your cr2 files--particullary the millennium folks--and save 'em to keep the pz3s small to begin with.

That link doesn't seem to work. Nice post though.

Thanks very much for that! Those of us with old, old computers have to be careful about this kind of thing. My poor old iMac can't even render Vickie 2, naked, if she has a bump map. sigh New machine soon, hopefully; then the poor dear can have clothes as well as bumps. :) BTW for Mac folks, Maconstructor does what Morph Manager does. This lovely piece of freeware is available from http://www.soft-rabbit.com/ Thanks MartinC!

You can also delete morphs this way within Poser 4's Hierarchy Editor.

Here's another trick for people without gigabytes of memory: don't render the image with Vickie. Once you have her set up the way you want her for the scene, export Vickie (and her clothes, hair, etc.) to a single .obj file. Delete Vickie from your scene, then import the .obj. It'll load into the scene with clothes, textures, and everything else intact. And you'll save a ton of memory because you won't have the .cr2 with all those morphs loaded. Now go ahead and render. This trims file sizes when saving .pz3 files, also. Of course, you're stuck with that one pose, but that's all you need for a render unless you're doing multiple scenes or animation.

scribbling madly on my notepad Thanks all!

To get rid of them in CR2Edit, highlight them in the righthand pane, click the trashcan, and drag them there. Note that you can do the same thing with PZ3 files, so you can clean up ones already made. You can always put them back by opening the original Vicki in the righthand pane and highlighting, then clicking the Transfer icon. That's a neat tip about saving as obj, thanks. I do this for stuff to go to bryce, never thought of using it this way.
