Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 15 11:01 am)
If the front-back thing is your situation, then you're right, you'll have to remap it using UVMapper, regrouping the model and then saving it as an .obj. Replace the original .obj with the new .obj (but keep the old one for backup), launch Poser, and load it from the Library to see if it looks right.
Rotation order and other junk are stored in the .cr2, not the .obj. The .obj is just geometry and UV texture coordinates. If the new .obj is the same name as the old .obj, and placed in the same Geometries folder as the original, you shouldn't have to hack the .cr2 to make it work. If you rename the .obj or place it in a different folder, then yes, you'll have to edit the .cr2 so it points to the right file.
why can't you alter the existing map front and back? or why can't you use the surface material tool to assign a whole new texture to the back of the figure (or just those areas you want to change?) the only reason i ask is because i have never had any luck creating a usable surface map using UVmapper for the mac.... i use the surface material tool in poser to "assign texures" to specific areas of my female figures to create certain clothing effects(i.e.--tight blouses, or evening gloves)and then save the modified figure to my "libraries" i have also been able to reassign the textures for areas of clothing figures, and then make them disappear by turning up the transperency, as well as re-group the textures. since the figures still refer to their original maps i can alter those if i need a custom texture.... the only downside i have found is that the shapes i can create are pretty much limited by the way the polygons are laid out in the original figures--which i'm sure you get around by using UVmapper--any suggestions on how you use the damn thing?!?!?!?!?

That's a good idea, Loraxxx, about assigning different materials, but it wouldn't work for the thing I wanted to do. The reason I couldn't apply a texture to the back of the figure and not to the front was that it was originally mapped without a split. The advantage to such mapping is that you don't get obvious seams on the sides without having to do all the work to get a texture that meets up perfectly along those edges loads of work if you're doing something with a complex pattern. But I just wanted to put a design on the back, no worries about the seams as it would all be one colour, so a split would be necessary. It would also work if I assigned a different material to the back, but I would still have to remap the .obj so that I could make sure the design sat where I wanted it to and this would only be feasible if I were planning for there to be no pattern at all on the front or the back, but I wasn't; the solid colour would only be on the sides. As it happens I ended up doing something different for now, but I'll want to do it later. ;) I'm still learning UVmapper, but there are good tutorials at the website. I started there. I just experiment with different mapping styles, see what works best for the thing I want to do: different map types for different kinds of things. This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Sorry it's so basic... I thought I'd ask the experts before I wasted three hours and broke something experimenting. :) S'pose I want to remap a character type filesome clothing, say. S'pose I'm happy with the groupings, just want another map type, or want to accentuate a certain part of the map. If I use Umapper to remap the .obj for the associated file in the Geometries folder, and then replace the original .obj with my remapped one having given it the same name, will that do it? Or do I need to do something more difficult? Thanks in advance.
