The inimitable Earthlink. Apparantly the contract rates changed as of the beginning of 2002 - notice was sent to my email address they have on file. The problem? that's the address that is supposed to become active when they install the DSL which I ordered SIX MONTHS ago. So - I didn't get the email, so the bill was an unpleasent surprise to say the least. I'm gonna be late for my rent this month because of it, the bastards. Needless to say I'm killing my account with them and am thinking dark thoughts. Anybody wanna send me money? sigh Mostly I'm kidding - but hey, send me twenty bucks and I'll burn up a copy of all my stuff as good tifs, not icky jpgs. grin I'm shameless when I'm bouncing checks like superballs. I'm feeling really poor - and because of this I won't be able to go visit my boyfriend in Chicago for Valentines. He's gonna be really bummed - he's going to be posted overseas soon, so it may be years before I can see him again in RL. and IRC is just not the same. ahem Pardon the whining. I'm gonna go eat chocolate, pet the cat and read bad porn. It makes me feel better. :) BTW Blood, if you need a texture ask me and I'll send it. PS your devil ducky pic made me fall out of my chair at the office, I laughed so hard. You see, I have a devil duckie. snarf See ya guys! Lyrra
Lyrra, That REALLY SUX!!! If they sent an e-mail to an account that THEY haven't activated yet (due to DSL), I'd get on the phone and tell 'em you'd be happy to pay the old rate, but not the new one. They should share some of the responsibility. Shoot, even if the e-mail account was with someone else and they're late in activating your DSL, I'd still give 'em a call. I stress a PHONE call, not e-mail. People are more sympathetic when there's a REAL person on the other end of the line. And if you suspect that the person on the other end of the line has trouble understanding your plight, ask to speak to their supervisor. (Supervisors usually have more lattitude in adjusting "things.") It's worth a try.
Yes, this definitely warrants vocal and persistent complaints to the company. Keep asking for the next supervisor up the chain of command. And a formal registered letter with cc. to the State Attorney General's Office, Consumer Protection Division (most states have one) may just work wonders too. I can't see how they can claim to have notified you. I am very non-confrontational myself but when it comes to money >$50 I tend to get my back up, and usually get good results. $1000 is definitely worth fighting for all the way up to the point where you don't have to hire a lawyer. Then you'd just just loose more money. =)But letters are cheap. By the way, I dropped that company like a hot rock myself awhile back. jon

Heyas, After receiving a $1000 bill for high traffic, I'm temporarily removing my freestuff until I can relocate my domain. Sorry! Lyrra
