Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 12:55 am)
I love your EasyPose figures Ajax. They are amazing. One problem, now I have no patience for multisegmented figures that are not EasyPose. In particular I really want EasyPose reins for my horse figures and an EasyPose snake. Daio

Daio, A snake is definitely on my list but I haven't decided on whether to do one from scratch or whether to reslice the Poser Rattler (I've been thinking about it for a long time -'spose I should make up my mind and get on with it). Reins sound easy enough to model but I would need some help with photos or diagrams so I could make them accurate. Do they have to run in a loop from the left bit ring to the right bit ring? That would be hard to make posable, but I do have a sneaky idea or two for it. A separate rein on each side would be easy enough. Sharen, I have a free item called the EasyPose Tube that you might like to check out. If you open the cr2 in a text editor, you can see how the posing system goes together. You need to know a fair bit about ERC. Bloodsong, Donw! Back!

For those that don't know, you can get the DAZ gremlin for free from front page of the In Depth site There's a pic, but it links to the reviews page and there's not even a review of it. ??? I guess they took it down. I like the easy pose Ornithopter...don't care too much how it works, just glad it does :)

Daio, Let me know when you have those reference pics. I only have the p4 horse. Is that OK? scifiguy, Try this link instead. Scroll to the bottom of the page.

The P4 horse is fine. That's what I use the most anyway. Here are some reference photos http://www.statelinetack.com/scripts/product.asp?company=slt&style=EI3-733185&category=1642 http://www.statelinetack.com/scripts/product.asp?company=slt&style=EI3-733136&category=1642 http://www.statelinetack.com/scripts/product.asp?company=slt&style=EI3-732198&category=1650 and a whole slew at http://www.equinesupplydirect.net/department.asp?DepID=1 If you need more, just let me know.

Wow, you really can buy anything on the internet. Those ones that show the headstall, bit and reins on the horse are just what I needed, thanks.

Gee, thanks for this! I think I shall borrow your techniques for the flaming whip I'm doing for my (Soon-to-be-redesigned-yet-again) Balrog (I found some AMAZING ref pics)... is that okay with you, Ajax? I'll give you credit for the technique... or do I have to give you a cut of the take?
Remember, kids! Napalm is Nature's Toothpaste!
It's just a Poser tech thing like MAT poses, or super-conforming garments or morph bearing poses or geometry switching or any of the other cool stuff people have come up with. Like all of those things, if you can do it yourself then you can use it in your products. I don't want a cut or credit and would have no legal basis for asking for one. All I ask is that keep the terminology the same. To be EasyPose, you have to be able to control the x,y and z rotation dials (ie bend, side-side and twist)of every part in a chain of body parts from each segment in that chain. That is, if you can grap any one part of the whip/tentacle/whatever and use dials on it to control every other part then you've got EasyPose. Otherwise you've got something else and will need a different name. There are a couple of people around that credit me on their EasyPose products, but that's because I actually did the cr2 hacking on those particular products.

No tute yet and no immediate plans for one. Nerd's EMC tute covers the code syntax and how to put in the extra dials, which is what got me started. I'm considering a couple of requests I've had to host a forum or a Q&A session. If/when I do I'll post lots of announcements about it. There are some tutes on how to use the system to it's full potential if that interests you (try the link). It might help you see what the capabilities are. Known problems are covered at the same site.

I'm in Canberra. I was in Perth for a week last October for work. It's a great place. I think I'd like living there.

Ajax, It would be great if you would do the Poser snake instead of making a brand new one. There are already some great texture maps out there for it. If the Poser snake was turned into an EasyPose figure, that would actually make it useful for animation. Please give this some serious thought. I would buy an EasyPose snake on the spot. jjsemp
The problem with doing the Poser snake is that I would have to reslice the mesh to get much smaller body parts. Then I could only distribute it with Objaction Mover which a lot of people refuse to use and also there's no commercial version yet so I'd have to get special permission if I wanted to sell it. If I do go with the Poser snake, I'll most likely offer it to Curious Labs for Poser 5. That way I won't have to worry about the distribution problems. I don't know if they'd be interested. On the other hand, if I make one from scratch, I don't have to worry about any of that. I can map it carefully so it takes the same textures as the existing Poser snake. The question is, are my modeling skills good enough to do a head as pretty as the Poser Rattler? I don't know, but I'd like to find out.

I second Daio, Easypose reins please! and if you could do it some stirrups (now I'm being greedy!) The ones on the chargers saddle take forever to get in the right place and then mess up when you animate the horse. That's a pwetty pwees with suger on top....
Actually, I was going to ask if there was any value to having EasyPose stirrups. I guess I'll have to turn this into a whole horse tack pack. It'll be for the p4 horse, not the charger. Is that OK for you, Alla?

Ajax, how did you model the knots in the flog? I thought that was pretty cool. Sure you can do a snake head. Hmm, the poser snake has quite a few morphs out there to make it into other types of snakes... I think that's another reason people would want you to use the poser snake. You can use Steve Cox's uvmapper (free version 0.25e) to encode in in uvs format available for commercial redistribution.

uvs encoding just changes the uv mapping, I think. I don't think I can use it to change grouping and I know it won't handle distribution of genuine changes to the mesh (I think I might have to put some extra polygons in, you see). The knots were done with a loft. I created a path line and then lofted a circle along the path. It wasn't hard.

Ajax, that's cool with me:) It would probably scale to fit the charger and Bloodsongs Heavyhorse too, if not I could maybe make morph targets for it. At long last I'll be able to make horsie pics without having to pint in the reins and stirrups in photoshop yeahhy!
FishNose, Yep. It should be in the store at Beyond Bent pretty soon. In fact it should have been there a day or two ago. I'll remind Davo about it. I've done most of Davo's monsters now. Sigh, just a couple to go. Alla, Don't get too enthusiastic. I don't know exactly when I'll get to this little project. I have a couple of things I really should do first. I will get to it, though.

Hey guys, I had taken the Gremlin download down because the page was getting too long. If you still want him you can get him here: http://www.critical-depth.com/reviews/gremlin.asp EricHi Darlisa, Eric. Nice to see you here. For those of you that are interested in the snake, I've just realised something I should have thought of ages ago. I can make a new body but keep the old head and there's a way to do it so that there won't be distribution problems, it will use the old texture maps and the head will take the old head morphs. I'll move it off the thinking about it list and put it in the waiting to be done list.

Does anyone know if there is some way to apply the easypose principle to the DAZ octopus or some other squid or octopus model? I find it tedious to experiment with different poses to find ones that look good. Also, it would be fantastic if the tentacles could actually be replaced with ones with more segments and easypose! But I guess this is a separate issue. Or is it?
I've had a request to do that one before but there just aren't enough segments in each tentacle. Maybe I could reslice it or replace the tentacles. I don't know. I don't have that model and I'm not likely to buy it so I can't really tell what's possible with it.
