Subject: PhiBuilder - Possible Update

fur ( ) posted Fri, 25 January 2002 at 6:40 AM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 8:56 AM

Someone mentioned to me about a potential update for PhiBuilder. I was just curious if other people had any other ideas or improvements that could be made to it. I might just have to release a new version in a couple weeks. fur

Ability to do IK chains would be a lovely addition Fur. Also, if one could add in a right click drop down box where one might set the preferred rotations, meaning x,y,z, etc to the part, it would be alot faster than the current way one sets them :) I use your phi builder almost daily it seems ;) It is my favorite wee app by far, and simplifies my life a great deal :) To see the latest creation I made with it is the hair the Wood Elf Archer is wearing over on Daz :)

In the tree editing section, is it not possible to drag a part which is already a child of another part back to the root. (Unless I've missed something!) Would you be able to implement this? :)

How about the ability to create a default .phi file based on a .cr2? Would be handy for making clothing based .phi files.

Ive been using PHI V 2 & find it excellent. Although I find it has a habit of freezing the system when it attempts to load a suspect .obj file where it would appear to find an error. It appears to happen is that PHI build must get confused & does a continious loop or runs to a dead end. The end result is the prog. freezes & the only out is a reboot. Ive model in amapi 6 & saved the obj file. On occassions when its been mapped through UV Mapper there are stray points. I believe it is to do with the low scale used by poser as opposed to amapi etc. Mind you I could be wrong but it only occurs when it is checking/loading the .obj file. As for extras it already allows IK Chains. The basics are already there. Not sure whatelse it needs?

If you do this, I wont have to templates for models and parent/child/rotation ie, human, 4 legs, 6 legs, 8 legs this would require 1 human 2--4 leg (horizontal and vertical arrangements) 2--6 leg (horizontal and vertical arrangements) 2--8 leg (horizontal and vertical arrangements) this would help force standard naming practices for poser limbs instead of rightfrontleg leftfrontleg..it would make them do rShldr, lShldr because of simplicity. all it requires is a button that has presets installed for the phi..and a button that would open them automatically. a person could do minor edits to that quickly. thanx BT

mehndi: what do you mean by "doing IK chains" it does those now. will add right click to the list hogwarden: i'll add that to the list trav: could you send me an example .cr2 and .phi ? king: could you send me an .OBJ file that locks it up? bryce: if you could send me example .phi's for each of those configurations fur

Hey Roy, I don't have any suggestions for Phi Builder, although I did use it for the very first time a couple of weeks ago while following a couple of tutorials. Worked perfectly for me. Thanks! -Darlisa (the other) Riggs

heyas; you're still doing phibuilder??? i mean, i thought it was, you know, dead. that's so cool, though! okay, i need a phi builder that can do a tree and/or txt listing of a figure that has 72 pieces per limb. or more. you know how it kinda freaks out when you run out of tab spaces when you get to the right side of the screen, and the next tab makes the next line wrap?

I love PHI builder. Here are my requests for improvements; 1. Currently it tries to organise numbered body parts into a hierarchy but it can't handle the trasition from 9 to 10, 19 to 20 etc. I'd like it to be able to handle part1 to part150 and get the hierarchy right. 2. This is really important for me. I need a faster easier way to set rotation order and add curvature. Even a simple find and replace would do it. In fact that would be perfect. I usually save the PHI and open in a text editor to do the rotation order by find replace, then go back to PHI builder. When I have a tentacle with 100+ joints, I don't want to go clicking on every bloody joint. If you could set that up like your current IK chain builder so that the selected parent donates it's rotation order to everything below it in the same chain, and the user can change the last thing in the chain if they want, that would be excellent. 3. The ability to set a default rotation order and curvature status for new documents would be cool. 4. It needs the ability for the user to set thier Poser 4 (or whatever) directory and have the program remember it and open to it by default. When I press open, it opens to "my documents" which is the last place I'm going to put a PHI file and it doesn't remember from the last session. My Poser is installed to Metacreations, but a lot of people have it in Curious Labs or some other place. the ->obj button works fine for me but I wonder whether it might have trouble finding the right directory for people with Poser in a different place. 5. Not so important but cute. PHI factory has this cool thing where you can construct a PHI file from an existing cr2. I would have found that very useful if PHI factory had worked as well as PHI builder. That particular function is the only thing I use PHI factory for and it doesn't always work. It would be cool if PHI builder could do it. 6. Add the IK to the button bar, rather than just having F9. How's that for starters? ;-)

Oh, yeah. It get's upset if you try to put too many parts in an IK chain and you have to do in text mode. I'd love to see that fixed. I use long IK chains a lot.

hah! and you thought i was nuts with 72 body parts in a limb. here comes ajax with 150!! ;D hey, ajax, i think that 'my documents' crap is windoze's fault. if you have phi builder's startup directory set where you want it, but it doesn't listen.... you gotta delete the 'my documents' directory. then it will. ;)

Ajax ( ) posted Sat, 26 January 2002 at 2:53 PM

I think 106 is my record so far, bloodsong. But I aspire to 150 and I want room for growth.
