Subject: *** WIN UVMapperPro *** a contest

geep ( ) posted Fri, 08 February 2002 at 2:11 PM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 3:09 AM

I am so excited about the just released UVMapperPro software by Steve Cox that I wanted to provide an opportunity for someone out there in R'osity Land who maybe can't cough up $50 right now to win a copy. So, I held a little quiz.
The winner was "cooler."

Not everyone really had enough notice to participate so I said to myself,

"Self, do it again."

That's why I'm re-posting this here because the original is now buried about 60 threads down the list.

****reprint ****

  1. ONE MORE CHANCE to win UVMapperPro - a contest by geep on 2/8/02 02:28

There are 3 questions.

Here are the rules.
*** READ 'EM CAREFULLY ***

You must have the correct answers for ALL 3 questions to win.

You MUST email your answers to me, but NOT BEFORE 23:59 RST tonight,
Friday, February 8, 2002.
[RST = Renderosity Standard Time - look in the upper right hand corner of your screen]

I MUST receive your answers before 00:05 RST, Saturday, February 9, 2002.
That gives you a 5 minute window to send your answers.
Remember, DO NOT SEND YOUR EMAIL BEFORE 23:59 RST!

The first one to email me at:

geep@cybertrails.com

with all 3 correct answers will win.

If I receive your email before 23:59 RST, it will NOT count.
You have been warned! Do not answer too soon!

Ready! Here goes!

  1. What is the next number in this sequence? 0,1,2,5,?

  1. What is the next letter in this sequence? G E L N ?

  1. A man goes outside his cabin and hikes 100 yards south. Then he turns and hikes 100 yards west. Next he turns and hikes 100 yards north and ends up where he started. Then he see a bear!

What color is the bear?

Ok, you got 'em. Good luck!

cheers,
dr geep <-------------------[tryin' to remember the answers]
;=]

P.S. I'll post the winner's name and the correct answers right here ASAP on Saturday morning.

Is that an African swallow or a European swallow? :) Very generous. Hey, it's your contest, you can make the rules. Folks will just have to set their alarm clocks, eh? Interesting second question. Think I got it figured out, but I'll be sleeping then. Good fun. Hope you post the answers tomorrow. jon

No one! Sorry. ;=[ Six entries were received and most got 2 out of 3 correct but nobody got all three answers correct. The correct answers are: ************************************************* QUESTION #1 - The correct answer is "26." take the first number and square it, then add 1 0 squared = 0 + 1 = 1 1 squared = 1 + 1 = 2 2 squared = 4 + 1 = 5 5 squared = 25 + 1 + 26 ************************************************* QUESTION #2 - The correct answer is "D." G enesis E xodus L eviticus N umbers D euteronomy ************************************************* QUESTION #3 - The correct answer is "white." The man's cabin is at the North Pole. If he walks south, then west, then north, he ends up exactly where he started; so the bear must be white. ************************************************* Since nobody won, I'll consider running another contest if anyone is interested. [shut-up geep, you just saved fifty bucks] Oh, oh! Thanks to all who participated. Better luck next time. cheers, dr geep <----------------------- (waiting for the "boo's" - or was it booze?) ;=]

I am she says timidly I felt like an idiot, when I only guessed the color of the bear. 'Course the next one probably won't be any easier, but that's ok :) It makes for an interesting thread, and it's incredibly generous.

1. What is the next number in this sequence? 0,1,2,5,? One could argue that theres another approach to the solution here. From 0 to 1: 1 From 1 to 2: 1 From 2 to 5: 3 From 5 to 8: 3 So another possible answer could be 8. (Sorry, former mathematics student who got caught in the snares of fine arts.....)

geep ( ) posted Sat, 09 February 2002 at 3:02 AM

or it could be "10" <---- if next two additions are "5" i.e., the number to add is: ... 1 1 3 3 5 5 7 7 etc. ...no? I don't know .... odd # progression?

Number 3 I knew (nice old chestnut), and number 1 was figured out as soon as I realized that it wasn't the Fibonacci sequence... but number 2? Not everyone remembers the names of those books... and questions which require reasoning rather than memory or special knowledge are more fair in a global community. Also, some folks only log on once a day... so a bit of lead time while give more people an opportunity. All that said, you are being very generous, and we seem to like contests and surprises so even the folks who don't win can have fun playing along. Carolly

Well I too only got the third one right. Tought I had them all. Differnt logic leads to differnet results. But since I was snoozing, it was just academic for me. Guess I flunked. :) This was fun. jon
