Subject: Mac OS 9.x minimum extension set?

nyar1ath0tep ( ) posted Mon, 11 February 2002 at 2:15 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 4:12 PM

I've seen some references to using a Mac OS 9.x minimum extension set to speed up Carrara 1.1. What are the extensions in this set? Maybe some of the Quicktime elements (don't know which), the OpenGL elements and video card elements (for preview mode viewing) - but what else?

nyar1ath0tep, the enclosed link takes you to a page on my website where you can download a .pdf file i made about my reduced extension set for carrara studio and photoshop. let me know if you have any questions or comments. -scott

O.K. that seems to cover it. Thanks very much for the excellent reference. The robot and crawler look very good, too. What are the advantages to using 2 monitors with Carrara? I think I can try removing the Photoshop and Microsoft stuff, assuming I don't try to run Explorer and Photoshop concurrently with Carrara.

the advantage of two monitors is simply screen real estate. the attached jpeg is of my tool layout for both carrara and photoshop. the monitor on the left is 16" (832x624) and the monitor on the right is 19"(1024x768).

this means that in photoshop, there is less scrolling on the image when zoomed in. also the image appears larger when zoomed out to see the entire thing. plus all of my tool palettes are visible. no tabbing between them.

in carrara, this means that i can display the properties window, and the sequencer at the same time and still have a big window to look at my scene. only the browser (green arrow) is tabbed down. i also rearranged my tools to better suit my work flow.

it is remarkably spoiling.
