Okay. Let me see if I've got this right: I subscribe for, say 40 bucks for 6 months, and all the killer, cool, gnarly stuff they have over there I can download for free? And the super-annoying pop-unders go away too? What's the catch? Looks like a lot of good models; anybody here use them much? I'm particularly keen on hearing from people who've used the biblical and Egyptian clothes and props. Thanks.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 3:35 PM

No catch. The place is amazing. Obviously, they prefer you to pace the downloads, but you're right, it's all there for the taking. I started with them specifically because of the historical stuff; part of my work is in historical recreations for museums and universities, and those egyptian, roman, and biblical costumes were a godsend. The hair on the Egyptian princess is sometimes a little wonky, but everything else is great: the texture on her dress is downright amazing -- I've never seen something that could suggest sparkles as well as that does. Rena and Steve are truly both incredible masters of this stuff.

Virtualsite is right.. about the only complaint i have with them is the server is a bit slowish and the files are not set up in paths so you have to manually install the files. (not impossible, since that way was the way i learned the poser file system, it just takes a little longer.

Hiram ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 4:37 PM

That's cool. I have MacConverter and MacInstaller. They do all the hard work, god bless 'em.

MadYuri ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 5:12 PM

Yup. Poserworld rocks. :)

Ms_Outlaw ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 5:26 PM

Have loved everything I've downloaded from them. I figured when I first bought my year subscription that they only updated maybe once a year or something... not so. I think theyve updated three or four times just from Dec. Good stuff to.

Anzan ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 5:52 PM

Yep.. I love that place. Like someone said... I wish they set their zips to autounload... but I'm just real lazy :grins: Manually installing everything when you're.. oh.. say ... reinstalling Poser takes FOREVER. In fact.. I only install what I'm about to use after redoing everything once or twice. But Poserworld is great... The textures they do are almost always just beautiful. Anz

Another plus is that, when you subscribe, you can use the downloads from that section in commercial renders. The items are very professionally made. Steve and Rena are two very talented people and their stuff is well worth the cost of membership. Melanie

Poserworld is the bomb... the only thing that comes close to it is the BBay Club... one model a week for 52 weeks... Regardless, you can't go wrong with Poserworld. I've had a subscription from day one and haven't regretted it unlike certain other subscriptions -- can you say Renderocity... they won't even get back to me with the new password for their new site... then they have the nerve to remind me to renew my subscription...geez!

i love Poserworld!!!

nfredman ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 10:13 PM

Ookami, wasn't Renderocity Catharina Harder's site? i think it's become Mecom4D, and Flash-heavy; and the subscription is up to $150. i wish Catharina, et al. were more informative about what was there or going to be there that we haven't seen on Renderocity in the past, so i'd have some inkling if that $150 was worth the trip, "lifetime" subscription or not. OK, color me skeptical. i admire Catharina's art, but her web site/e-commerce thing has been, er, rather unsettled from my bugs' eye uninformed point of view, which makes me nervous, as "lifetime" in web years can be about 1 year or so IRL.

ookami ( ) posted Wed, 20 February 2002 at 10:25 PM

NFredman... Agreed, I really enjoy her art... but her ecommerce skills are sadly sub-par. For the time I joined, there were VERY few updates, even though the subscription promised regular updates... Then it changed to Mecom4D and I never received a new password, an email letting me know it was changing and my existing password didn't work. In addition, I have STILL not received a reply to my request for a working password. Sorry, but I won't be dropping anymore money on anyone who treats customers that way. I've enjoyed the wonderful customer service of DAZ3D, BBay and Renderosity, so I guess I'm spoiled.

Hiram, I can strongly recommend Poserworld if you're interested in the historical stuff they have there. I have used the Roman clotes and props a lot, and they are just amazing. Highly detailed and very easy to use.

MadYuri ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2002 at 1:34 AM

@nfredman In the Product Showcase Gallery are some Pictures of Catharinas's upcoming texture. Very sweet. She has 2 sites: http://www.members4d.com/ - subscription site http://www.mecom4d.com/ - free site with some good stuff @ookami I had no problem with a new password. Try to email her again, maybe its only a glitch.

Hiram.. here's the catch! Me and Steve always supported the freestuff and items to be distributed among users.. We stood by that as long as we could with our free sites (poserworld/fairywoods) or better..for as long as our pocket could still take the bandwidth cost! Popularity sometimes eats you up when you are a free site.. :o( So, once we were faced with the dilemma either to close down or go commercial to meet up with the site expenses we decided to set the deal in such a way that in the long run it still will be somehow as freestuff..or better, no more than a few pence for each model! :o) We had promised at least 100 new models a year, we have not been around with the subscription site for that long yet, however..we have honored our promised twice or triple so far and that's the greatest satisfaction of all both for us as well as our customers.. does that make any sense to you? :o) Rena (50% partner of Poserworld's subs site.. aka PWFW)

nfredman If you think that $150 for lifetime is to much then I don't know any more, if 192 props and 12 texture sets per year is not to much for the price then you are wrong! Every week are updates on 2 website every week and nobody are worry about, why people talking about here??? do I have a website or e-mail? I think more that 100 e-mails, do you get here your answer? I think not and I don't have the time to search for questions reagard for me. All members from renderocity and poser4u have working new e-mail but if you e-mail don't working then you don't get any information, I spend $7.500 USD and give a 50 free subscription for the first old members that was not active any more and they got my e-mail, and what not you ookami??? do you really wrote to me? I am everyday on my website and you are too sometimes why you don't ask me? think about before you say something, and that is not my hobby website any more and all cost money and there work 5 people on this then please don't tell me something like this.

nfredman ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2002 at 11:49 AM

Catharina, i'm sorry to upset you. i've sent an e-mail from Renderosity, rather than waste public bandwith, then. Perhaps you could give us some more information about what exactly is up with Mecom4d here, to get people interested? Sounds like you're planning big things. --Nan

No catch, Hiram. It will be about the best Poser-related $50 or $150 you'll ever spend. Truly great items. And the best part is that Steve and Rena are very receptive to suggestions and ideas for new products. I haven't yet made a suggestion but I know many others have. Two of the best investments I have made in my over-indulgent Poser purchases have been my PoserWorld subscription and my subscription to Traveller's weekly Prop Club. Take care and be well. casamerica
