ok, I've mostly finished the vicky robe I've been working on (just a few more tweaks in the joint parameters). I'm torn between putting it in free stuff & putting it in the marketplace. I would prefer to put it in free stuff, but there are a few things that I'd like to get (UVpro & a few other things) I feel guilty about spending the household money on my little hobby. I was thinking about maybe doing it as a kind of donationware (selling for a buck or two until a set dollar amount is reached) ok, discuss among yourselves.

Pumkins are cool. It looks good. Aways a tough decision on whether to sell or not. It depends really if you like seeing people use your mesh. In the marketplace it might get lost. There are other robes out there for sale. Mabey it depends how bad you want the software. Tough call. Either way you did a nice job and you'll enjoy UV mapper Pro.

This is a tough call. So many great artists have contributed Free Stuff, and paid the price of web site hosting fees, etc. So many great artists have needed to "go commercial" to at least pay the costs, and maybe get a few bucks for necessities. I think the "life span" of Free Stuff providers might be shorter than it was awhile ago, and for good reasons. Some might think of Free Stuff as a way "to make a name, and give back to the community." The Marketplace can be seen as an attempt to at least get some compensation for one's efforts. And if an artist is lucky, maybe they could afford to "quit their day job?!" Ron

Very nice... set-uop a Paypal account and make it donationware...

Looks very good. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but from experience, "donationware," "careware," etc. doesn't cut it. I am not referring to ANYONE who has commented in this thread, but, people say they'll "donate" a buck or two and then either forget or just plain blow it off. Follow the example of people like Vairesh, spectre and others who make great stuff at very, very reasonable, almost giveaway prices. Say the $5-$9.99 range. I haven't played with the model itself, but, from the appearance and especially if you include a texture or two, it looks very much worth the price. Now, having said all that, my experience comes from outside this community. This community has shown something rather unique among other computer communities I have come across and participate in on the net -- compassion and generosity. So, if I were to ever try the "donationware" or "careware" route again, this would be the community to stake my last, best hope. Either way, good luck. Take care and be well. casamerica

heyas; well, go one way or the other. if you sell fifty and then put it up for free download, those people who shelled out moolah for it might get annoyed. or, everybody might wait for everybody else to buy the first ones, and try to get the free ones later.

Heya shadowcat, If you have any doubts about your own purpose, it's best to go with one of the established routes, ie free or commercial, not in between with this donationware. Only use "donationware" when there is a specific purpose to benefit the "community" as a whole, eg donating the sales to bandwidth costs of a "community" site, donating to another person's funds, donating to charity. These may seem like ambiguous definitions, but basically you don't get any money yourself. By the way, setting up a paypal account to sell it really cheap at your own website (which is a great idea, and should work for you since people know of your website though your history here) - I would still consider "commercial" and not donationware. Cheers :)
