Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 03 8:59 am)
Did we get out of the wrong side of bed today? :-) I took a quick look at your thumbnail images, and nothing jumped out at me. Why are you being so hard on other people? Do you include yourself in the 10%? I would assume there are alot of people llike me who are not artists by trade, but do this as a hobby. If people like what I post then fine; if they don't, well I'll get over it. :-)
=) Dirk, there's a thread below about what makes people click on a particular thumbnail, and one highly enlightening comment: "there's a lot of 16 year old boys in here" - which may be true only on a certain gonastic level =) Vicky is the Poser Barbie doll, completely posable, with a wardrobe that can't be beat (as long as you like lingerie and armour). She's the woman some of the guys will never have, so she's the perfect electronic surrogate. Michael, on the other hand, probably scares some of these people because they know they'll never be even close to what he is (Kupa, don't let your hat size go up too much by that remark, okay? =)). I'd even bet that, on a certain level, working with Michael freaks some of these people out because posing is such an intimate experience. (shrugs) It's the R'sity way, I guess: a perpetual Disneyland where you can be anything you want, protected by a layer of monitor screens and limited only by your imagination. It's just that most imaginations around here are kinda in a rut, so to speak... =)
Maybe that's true for a lot of people, but it isn't true for me. I am a woman and I primarily do images of women. My friends accuse me of being "part lesbian" but that isn't really it.. I just think women are more interesting to look at. I have more Mike work in mind though. I just need to get a few more pieces of clothing for him, and I am already working on some texture sets for what I do have. I am looking forward to the release of SteffyZ's new Mike texture (if it isn't out already). =)
Kieraw, you know, because of the way our society views such things, it's completely understandable that you, as a woman, wouldn't have the issues over posing someone of your own gender that a guy working with Mike might. I was watching Whose Line last night, and the audience roared at the sight of a male-male kiss, while two women doing the same thing wouldn't raise an eyebrow. It's just our happy-go-lucky sexist society in action. =) And let's face it: R'sity is very much a reflection of that.
I can hang with that idea, VS. I just don't get it, myself. From a psychological/intellectual standpoint I can understand the discomfort, but it makes little logicl sense to me. I have always had difficulty doing art with men in it. I tended to make them look very feminine in my pencil drawings and even in my Poser work I tend to show more of a romantic side than a stereotypical heaving barbarian of massive proportions. As a woman, I am more comfortable with the female body. hehe, as a kid I had over 50 Barbie dolls and two Kens. =D
Bravo to both Dirk and Virtual. Yesh, how many time can you pose a figure in temples, armor, body jewels, etc without it getting old and boring to look at. And it's gotten to the point now that once yu've seen one naked boob, you've seem them all. By the way, it was my understanding that images that had nudity was supposed to be marked that way. Oh that's right, Vicky showing her tits and whatever else isn't considered nudity around here. Check them out, you'll find many nudity pics not marked nudity. I'm not knocking anyone who posts an image here but please start showing some form of imagination. It's way too easy to take a figure, throw a premade pose on it, pop on something that is conforming, throw up a backdrop and make a pic of the whole thing. As for Mike, yes, he is a pain to work with but that is what make it even more of a challenge, especially in areas of clothing, hair, poses, ect. There just isn't enough out there for him (unless you do armor and then he would fall victim to the same thing Vicky has)so he ends up being nude or half nude most of the time. Sometiome the body doesn't respond to posing like the human body does and it's a challenge to try to get it right.
a stereotypical heaving barbarian of massive proportions.... excuse me, I need a little lie-down for a moment. Ah, much better. =) Well, again, it's just the way our society works. We tend to look down on people who really work for a living, like construction workers and manual laborers. We guys will spend hours in the gym to build muscles we'll never really use, and I can tell you that even straight guys are intimidated by a 6-4 tower of muscle, even if he is gay. (No, not me, but my gym buddy is, and it's hysterical to see how he parts the waters when he moves across that gym floor.) It's the weirdest thing, these days: these guys will look at someone like Cory and smirk that "with a body like that, dude's gotta be gay" -- and yet you know that (1) they're envious as hell and (2) they're scared to death. No surprise, then, that we should see it carry over to a place like this.
So as not to offend anyone, I just got irritated this morning when 95% of all the pics were Vicky again...she is used so often, all the pics are starting to resemble each other from one day to the next..Sorry if a few of my previous statements came out wrong..How about a Victorian vicky, or my dream setting is Lucy and Ricky, I'd like to do it but the hair clothes and furniture are virtually impossible to find, but a more advanced poser person could mosy likely pull it off..So point being just something different would be nice
Then start doing something. That's how the Backstage series started, as a little poke at the perpetual Vickie in a temple images, and since it's blossomed into its own little niche. Like so many people have said in the past, just do it. If people respond to it, bonus points. If they don't, no biggie, not in the grand scheme of things.

dirk5027 -- I was looking for a different prop piece for a Jester figure Im working on, and came across this (see link) should be able to be a "template" for a '40s dress for Lucy.. Maybe one of the clothing creators can make something similar.... Hope this "suggestion" helps.. and I agree, there is by far more Vicky than Michael... (course I am noticing a slight Mike surge now that there is Mike2...) just my .02... :)I like 'Vicky in a Temple' images. There are other types of images that I don't like as much.. but I would never presume to suggest that even a single person should alter their work because of my tastes! There are probably people who have perfectly good reasons for disliking your work. Would you succumb to their demands on how you create your art? Or would you think; "Go make your own art the way you like and don't tell me how to make mine."
are there any clothing makers doing this for the 240+lb muscled versions of mike???
I would like to know

Truth be told, I love 'em all -- Ron, the Magic Pink Pony, Nekkid Vicky and Her Inexhaustable Collection of Helmets, everything. Yeah, I went through a period of taking this place sooooo seriously, and you just can't do that. So if we have a parade down R'sity's Main Street, I hope it has as many saloon girls and gunfighters and rabbits and ponies and naked chicks and naked guys (especially naked guys, come to think of it) as the street can accomodate. Rock on, folks.
I personnaly prefer working with Vicky!
We have lots more stuff made for her.
I personally never get tired of "Vicky PinUps" Pics!
I Love looking at the Femal Form! ;-)
The only time i use Mike, is to make "GTS" pics...
Which i post at a site dedicated to that Fetish...
And it's indeed a reflection of society...
I was asked to help write an upcoming article on Poser
for a French Mag "Avant & Apres"(Published in French speaking
Contries only). And my friend picked out of many pics
i had done this one:

BTW, that article will appear in about 2 weeks...
Ciaos!

How exactly did I make a mockery of the Hot 20, Ron? By posting pictures of a magical pink pony? Is doing something RADICALLY DIFFERENT from every other image here (including my own previous work) mean it's somehow unworthy of a gallery stuffed to the brim with fairies, warrior princesses, and softcore pin-ups? I'm sorry, I didn't realize that I had to TOE THE LINE here. I didn't realize in the time I've been here (several years longer than you) that there is only a limited choice of styles and/or subject matters that an artist is allowed to depict. When exactly did HUMOROUS ART become unwelcome? Please answer this, since you seem to know all the answers here, as Voice of the Community. I guess I'm just a heretic, because I have NO INTEREST in the "popular" genres depicted by the "Real Artists". Maybe you should start a campaign to have me banned for my crimes against art. If I rendered some picture of Vicky sucking her own tit on a Marketplace Barcalounger, I guess that the members who'd comment and vote on it wouldn't be lumped into the same category as the members who vote for the stuff I do now, who must obviously be my "friends", and not just people who enjoy my work. After all, they wouldn't vote for my images if they weren't my good pals, because my work is such CRAP, which couldn't POSSIBLY be seriously enjoyed by anyone. "And, judging from other messages in this forum, others agree." Funny, I don't see any messages in this forum that agree with you. You fully expect me to ignore any positive words in your message? Well, you're right, snoogums, I'm not gonna disappoint you. Your one positive sentence will be ignored, just as I'd ignore a jellybean stuck to a pile of dog crap. Which is as appropriate a metaphor for your post as I'm likely to offer.
I respond in such a hostile manner because of the offhand way you dismiss my work and the people who enjoy it. I went back and looked at those threads, most of which were locked because of the rudeness of my detractors (must be all my FRIENDS who are moderators, that's why they locked them, no doubt). There were maybe two or three rude people calling my work "shit" and several more who defended it...but they must be my "friends" as well. We all have big parties with guns and naked chicks and fire trucks, and we never invite YOU). Screw it, you're entitled to your own opinion, no matter how narrow and ignorant it may be; but that's MY opinion, and I reckon I'm as entitled to one as you are. I'm just going to join the growing ranks of the people who are ignoring you. I'd sooner use my time to do something constructive, like creating more Magic Pink Pony images just to piss you off and further "make a mockery" of the artistic integrity of the gallery. You can respond to this if you please, but you're better off not wasting your time. You're dismissed.
Gentlemen, at the risk of assuming Scott's role, e-mail this, huh? And Doc? Far as I'm concerned, the more MPP, the more Fluffers, the more Jumping Jesus on a Stick -- the better. Go for it, dude. And Ron? Far as I'm concerned, the more illustrations from your children's book of poetry -- the better. Go for it, dude. Now: both of you -- SHUT THE HELL UP. Thank you. =)
Wow, this went and got more out of control than I would have figured. G Oh, wait a minute....OK, excuse me, just passing through... (but, off the record, I will still prefer to stand up for those who actually exercise their right to speak out, as opposed to those who seek to deny it; additionally, a little antibiotic in the name of alleviating harmful mildew never hurt anyone either. :))...but that's just my take on it....
Wow, this went and got more out of control than I would have figured. G a complaint about naked vickis not getting out of control? hmm Mike, you've been spending too much time at the tav ;) i wonder if that's where scott is too, to miss the evolution of this one ;) anyway, i've got a naked vicki pic to work on, read yas at the tav :D

Err...not to be misunderstood, I believe Legume has every right to do as he sees fit; If the "more acceptable" folk can't keep up in the ratings, then they need to ask their "fans" why it ain't happening. And the only alternative answers to the question of why Legume is all over it are either: 1) He's more popular, or 2) the supporters of "traditon" don't put their mouse clicks where their mouths are.
Ron, your arguments are entirely one-sided; you are right, you will always be right, and, equally, anyone who disagrees, is simply wrong. And, Please. Typing like this: Double spaces between Every thought. Is not only poor sentence structure, But can be Rather annoying. Get it together man, think before posting.
No Ron, belive me, it's more like you are the one who is incapable of having an adult discussion: See, if you haven't noticed you are always the one on the correct side of nearly every issue in which you are involved. As you see it, that is. Now, consider, it's rare that all people are always right, and especially in an argument involving such a concept as "art", it's even more likely that most people will be wrong, when you weigh individual opinions against what is popular. Anyway, my point is that, though I may not agree in general with all that goes on around here, I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit back and let some masked crusader come along and try to take charge of it all...someone who attempts to show he "cares", while never missing an opportunity to try to show everyone else The Way It Is Go ahead, argue if you wish....
Oh, the poor kid is feeling harassed now because many of us don't agree with his ill-formed and unsubstantiated opinions and independently refuse to be lumped under his royal we... and most of us do our best to ignore him? If there was a button to exclude his comments from my view, I'd certainly push it! Carolly
Is it acceptable to attempt to act as the Voice of the Community? Is it acceptable to seek to infiltrate every thread just to make one's presence known, while often saying nothing? Is it acceptable to demand that people state their questions and/or comments in some specific, pre-defined way, in spite of the fact that many don't properly understand the nuances of America-Speak? Is it acceptable to take every opportunity to try to show everyone else how they are wrong? Better yet, is it personally acceptable (to one's conscience) to continuously make an ass out of oneself so publicly? What exactly is "acceptable"? Especially when you have a troll/non-troll patrolling evry thread, just waiting for the opportunity to flex his self-assumed muscle. The self-appointed troll in question will be willing (and more than hapopy!) to tell you what's acceptable. But then again, no one likes a troll. AND, I would imagine that out of all demographic groups, arteests are probably the least likely to respond favorably to someone else trying to "lead" them along the correct path, irregardless of the exact nature of that path...
Is it acceptable to go whining to some executive when you're too stupid to leave it alone? seemed to me you were the first one to whine to mods and also keep a list of names. lol If you say yes, then you truly don't belong here. there you go again dictating how the rules are. everyone else is just trying to ignore you, but you go overboard and imply to people they just don't belong here. this is why this behaviour is hard to ignore. the whole place is striving to become diverse, progressive and tolerant. you pretend you are but at the same time keep trying to force your rules on others. just because you have withheld from calling people names doesn't make what you say less insulting. if so many people who are usually on opposite sides of the common arguments around here happen to all complain about you, do you think something might be wrong with your own behaviour? anyway, i think i'm just gonna have to nominate you as a moderator for the poser forum. rofl

Out of the 10% of people here, that actually use their imagination, I have a huge gripe about this Vicky syndrome....Naked vicky, vicky with a sword, what's up with that?? Non Vicky pics get almost no viewings, while a vicky pic gets over 400... This place is very biased, and anyone denying that, needs a reality check..... Why do you people go nuts over a new male texture (over 25 comments) when you never use them. Why did you purchase Mike2 when you never do anything with him?? I don't care, you can slam me all you want to, you call yourselves artist and you have no insight or imagination whatsoever (the 10% most likely know who you are, so disregard that statement) Now i'll go look for imaginative images here at Vickyrosity Thank God for legume and people like him, at least you can depend on them for something unique and imaginative
