Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 12 11:30 pm)
If the item you wish to export (in OBJ format), is a figure then check the box: "Include body part names in polygon groups", to retain the grouping. If it is a static model then select the: "Include existing groups" box. In both cases I suggest you select the "Weld body part seams" box but be prepared to weld again in UVMapper for good measure.
Thanks, but think the problem is not in the Poser exporting act, because in Lightwave, all body parts are correctly listed as polygon parts; but after then, if I export the modified figure from LW to Poser or UV mapper, the figure becommes without any part, just one group... Maybe it's impossible to associate those programs in that way, all the tutorials foundede on the web concern only importing poser figures on LW and stay there...
Lightwave doesn't export groups in it's object exporter. Bloodsong has a method that works pretty well. You need to create surfaces in modeler for each body, named as "bodypart_material" for instance, "head_skin" "head_teeth" etc. Then you can export the object, and use a text editor to split the Lightwave surfaces into groups and materials. Lightwave will export the surfaces as usemtl lines in the object file: usemtl head_skin Do a search and replace on usemtl and replace it with g g head_skin then do a search and replace on the underscore _ and replace it with a newline character and usemtl and a space (in textpad this would be n) "nusemtl " you end up with g head usemtl skin Sounds screwy, but it works. You need a fairly robust text editor that can search for formatting characters like newlines and such. Hope this made sense! Regards- Lemurtek

I try to export a modified original geometry (directly from the geometries Poser sub.directory) which has multiple parts (in the "select polygons from sel set) and materials, and when I import the file in UV mapper, and after in Poser, there is only one group ... so it's impossible to make it conform .... An idea, please ... Phil
