Hi gang, Im just passing along a message from Gilles Mazars at MC. Posted to the Carrara One-List. "From: gmazars@metacreations.com Hi all, Who am I ???? I'm a Metacreations (ex-RAYflect) developper. I worked on Carrara's Interactive Renderer. We all know that 'Carrara's Interactive Renderer' is fast, soooo fast. Did I tell you I worked on that part ? ;o) Here are fews tips to use it the best way and make it even faster (can you believe that ??!!?): - In Interactive Settings: - Silhouettes rendering is quite time consuming - my advice would be to choose 'Boxes only' silhouette when you need to speed up - degradation mode - choose BoundingBox rendering mode when you reach 1 fps (or more) Don't forget: the degradation mode can not be active for the first move(we have to compute the fps with your selected object rendered with your chosen rendering mode). - Grid: you can change the Grid spacing ... (View/Grid menu) less lines = faster rendering - Working Box: you can desactivate few walls of the Working Box(Alt-click on the Working Box wall icon) ... you will have less silhouettes and less walls to draw. (I often use only 1 plane) Cont.....

  • Object manipulation: -When you want to move an unselected object, do not: - select the object (click on the object) - wait for the selection to be done - and then move it (new click and move) but do: - select and move (click and move) this will be twice faster (the click/selection can be very time consuming with big scenes, so why do it twice ??) - uncheck 'Show Object in 3DView' (in Properties palette) for any object you can hide. Displaying less objects is (obviously) faster - set 'Backfaces visibility' to Hide Backfaces ... this option forces BackfaceCulling for the object. Displaying less faces is (obviously) faster - Window - Reduce window size - 4-panes view speed up your object manipulation (most of the time you only do it in 1 view ... and this view is 4 times smaller than in 1-pane view mode). To ask for update only in the active Pane, got to File/Preferences/3DView and choose 'update active pane only'. You can also choose in 'InteractiveSettings' special settings for a pane. - do not overlap the 3DView by a palette (3DView is often overlapped by Properties palette) - close your palettes (so they do not need to update) - close your group in hierarchy palette (idem) HTH, Gilles M."
