Attached Link: I Cry No More

I was looking through the 2D gallery when I happened across this gem. The moodiness, the beautiful style of the artist's painting, and the plain creepy strangeness really reached into that dark corner of my head and poked something that hasn't been poked before. I STILL have a weird feeling after seeing this.

Creepy.

I guess I'm getting jaded in my oncoming middle age, but I didn't get the same creepy sense everyone else has. It's just a picture. And I don't mean to imply that I need gore and guts and blood sprouting out the eye sockets; it's just something that I've seen so many times in so many variations that I guess I'm not as impressed by it as everyone else. Just my 0.02, folks.

Probably not jaded VS, just not your cup of tea. It's all subjective. I looked at it and didn't really get anything out of it either, other then I didn't see what all the fuss was about. To each his own :)

I wasn't creeped out either....I was too busy being blown away by the painting skills. Thanks for pointingit out Doc...I would never have seen this otherwise.

"And if I ever lose my eyes, if my colours all run dry Yes if I ever lose my eyes, Oh if.... I won't have to cry no more." It disturbed me too. Art can do that, you know. ; )

You hit it square! Those lyrics are exactly how it affected me, along with something my old friend Philo used to say; 'None are so bling as those who have no eyes". Lelionx, that tribute from Bloodsong really floored me, and still does. It hold a cherished place in my archive (along with my desktop, where it's been my wallpaper for a year and a half). I was really touched at both the effort and the idea that Bloodsong communicated with that image, and every time I llok at it I'm utterly flattered. Gotta laugh at that last link. That's one aroused elf.

Damn! I missed Bloodsong's image the first time around. Yet another reason I consider Bloodsong one of the best artists at Renderosity. Always thinking up new and interesting things. Its one thing to have the technical skill to reproduce a classic painting, its entirely another to constantly come up with original artwork that makes people think, "How the hell did they think that up?" Bloodsong has made me react like that on numerous occasions.

bloodsong ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 5:30 PM

heyas; is that thread still around?? sheesh, don't they ever clean up around here? :) i hope you didnt mean the razor pic, there, arch, cuz you know, that ain't original at all. now other stuff, that is definitely my brain's fault ;) as for this new pic.... well, i'm afraid i'm in the not-so-touched camp on this one. something about the expressionlessness doesn't work for me. on the other hand, maybe that's the point. yeah, that's pretty creepy.

archetype ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 5:57 PM

Well I know you got the idea from Un Chien Andalou and, although I haven't seen it, I have seen screenshots of the scene you were inspired by. I was referring to your art in general, and not the razor pic specifically (although I think you did a great job on it.)

MaxxArcher ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 7:16 PM

Creepy you say? You know whats creepy? This artist created an image I had in my mind 2 years back when I was in deep sh*t. I wrote a poem back then (cant find or recall it) but a few phrases come to mind: "...a head, two lifeless black eyes staring at me..." "this reflection tells me Im loosing touch, I have to get a grip, but how can I, when I've seen too much?" Though Im not bald, the picture McF created shows a VERY close image of what I envisioned when I wrote the poem, "Dark mirror..." Maxx

hermit ( ) posted Fri, 01 March 2002 at 7:57 PM

I wasn't so much creeped out as drawn to examine the image closer. The way McF used contrast to draw the viewer back to empty eyes slams the statement home for me. "It was a Blind man Who taught me how to see." Aerosmith. Hermit

oh, okay, arch. :) that happened to me, once. i saw an image hear real close to one i had in mind a long while back. that either says something about the collective subconcious, or it's a point for all those people who claim it is impossible to be unique or create new things.
