Subject: Time stands still

I am using Bryce 5 on a pc with windows XP 256MB RAM and 40GB hard drive..I have noticed that when I use Bryce, time really does stand still and the date time function in the task bar pane just stops - it doesn't really bother me except for the fact that I spend far longer in Bryce than I intended to at the beginning of the session. I just wondered if anyone else has come across this?

Welcome to the wonderful world of 3D! ;) I don't get that bug, I'm running "ME", though I'm sure there are many. One artist posted "he can't wait till the render is done so he can have his computer back. Have fun

I have the same problem at first I thought the cmos battery was dyin on me after only one year, but I noticed that when I render in full screen mode, time stops : ) strange bug with xp

Happens on 2000 and NT as well, those OS's assign priority to processes for CPU time and the clock gets low priority. This is more of an OS issue then Bryce. Once the render is done the time updates. Try rendering with the taskmgr running in the systray and watch the CPU stay pegged.

Doesn't happen on my laptop (P2 366) or desktop (P4 1.8) with W98SE. Curious.

Yeah, win 9.x and I think ME are based on the Kernel32, I may be off on the name of it but I know they are on a different kernel then 2000, NT and XP, in fact XP may have a totally different core then NT and 2K. Win 9X gives pretty much equal access to the CPU to all applications. The NT based (2K,NT,XP) assign priority in some arcane way. Bryce gets higher priority then the clock so it doesn't refresh the clock until Bryce or whatever programs you are using releases the resources. The thing to remember is even though all windows versions look similar they are all different at the core and in the case between 9x and NT based it is a radical difference. Darn it, I am a computer geek :)

I quite understand (the diff between win flavours and the being a computer geek). As an aside, does anyone know how B5 behaves under Linux?

I never knew it was B5 that was messing up XP's time until I read this thread. Was thinking the cmos battery like canine. It's a releaf to know it's not the hardware. Thanks Have fun Dave
