You can make the garden lattice using a thin cube with a texture and transparency map. Create a texture window in the A diffused channel. Then click the P button on the texture window. The top right button on the texture window will take you to picture editor. Load the map into the first window in the picture editor, then copy & paste it to the middle window. Back in the materials lab set the mapping mode of the texture window to ( object cube ) If object cube doesn't work try different mapping mode till one does work. For the transparency. You will probable need to take the regular texture map into a paint program first and change all the colored parts to pure white, and the spaces where the hole are to pure black. Then for the transmap do the same putting a texture window in one of the other space B, C, or D, in the transparency Optic channel. Then change the material options to Blend Transparency mode. And make sure you map the transmap the same as the texture map. You could probably just use one texture window with the color map in the first window and the trans map in the second window of the picture editor. But I usually use a separate texture window for driving a trans map. Driving the bump & color from one texture window is ok, but I have run into problems driving the alpha ( just for transparency ) and color info from one texture window. Also you could use the trans map in the terrain editor to create a garden lattice.
Another way, besides using transparency, to make a lattice is to actually use the Bryce symmetrical lattice. You can go into the terrain editor and either draw your lattice there or import a b/w bitmap created elsewhere. Afterward, flatten it out to the thickness you want and rotate it up. I use this method for modeling all sorts of things from tree trunks to brick archways.

Hi, I am new to Bryce (2 days new) and I have read a tutorial on making materials. I made the one I needed for my wall, BUT I wanted to make a lattice (not the lattice I have seen referenced so often in Bryce, a garden lattice) material. Only I am not really sure how to go about it. I suppose I could just do Boolian objects for the whole latice its just alot of work and I would like to see if I can find a way to do it this way first. Thanks.
