For your information, on the cover of the latest 3DWorld magazine, are 3 models from DAZ. The P4 Fairy, the Camel and the Goblin

Which issue? Distribution of 3DWorld is patchy, and I've seen as much as 3 months go by between recieving a subscription issue and seeing it on the newsstands. Thanks for the alert, by the way!

..and next month on Computer Arts we're getting D Sculptor for nuffink.....

Questor ( ) posted Wed, 24 April 2002 at 4:26 PM

What issue of Computer Arts is that then? The April issue I received had ReelDVD, Illustrator 10, Cinema 4D 7.3 abd Ultradev 4 on it. The May issue in the post this morning has Flash Toolbox Lite, Combustion 2 and Gimp. Sorry, I'm just kinda curious about that.

I'd also like to know what issue # specifically

Ajax ( ) posted Wed, 24 April 2002 at 7:28 PM

Which issue number of 3D World has the DAZ stuff? I'd like to ask my newsagent to reserve a copy.

Ditto. "Current" is not a very useful concept with regard to magazines that are distributed by subscription in several different countries and through dealers in mysterious ways in many countries.

Questor ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 5:11 AM

The issue of 3D World that has the DAZ files on it is the upcoming May issue (No. 25). Subscribers in the UK tend to get the magazine a couple weeks before general distribution. So current in this case means next month. :)

saxon ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 10:57 AM

.......and the next issue of Computer Arts comes out on May 23rd in the UK, it'll be issue 70, the June issue.....

saxon ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 10:58 AM

bugger.... issue 71.....

D-Sculptor's also going on 3D World's next cover CD, I'd be willing to bet. (Don't take me up on that: I edit the magazine, so you'd lose.) And so is another full product that I am forbidden to mention, because the manufacturer hasn't sent the contract back yet... That's issue 27, incidentally. On sale in the UK 21 June. On sale anywhere else God-knows-when.

saxon ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 11:47 AM

Then you'll also know that 3D World has Maya's personal learning edition on the cover CD.

saxon ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 11:50 AM

oh, and welcome to the community, been here long?

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 12:08 PM

Does issue 27 have Maya on it? I'm currently in a great game of e-mail tag with 3DWorld, trying to purchase just one issue via bank check, and from the US. I was told this may be possable, but that I'd need to wait a couple weeks to do so from the back order people, for just one issue. = )

saxon ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 12:27 PM

It's 6.30 pm over here so he's probably gone home for tea. I'm looking at an advert for 3D World in Compter Arts and there's a picture of the cover CD, says all about MAYA personal learning edition and Poser models but doesn't give the issue number.. oh bugger it! I'll go down to Smiths tomorrow and see if I can get a copy, I'll get two if pos......

Questor ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 1:20 PM

Cainbrogan. The May magazine, Issue 25 has Maya Learning Edition on it. This edition of Maya is fully functional except for plugins (I think) and all saves from this edition will have a watermark embedded in them. Probably a very visible one. It's on sale now in UK stores and will gravitate around the planet gradually, probably, somewhere.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 1:35 PM

OK so let's get this straight Issue 25 - Has Maya Learning Edition Issue 27 - Has the Fairy! = )

leather-guy ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 1:49 PM

I subscribe to several british computer magazine newsletters, and todays PCF Emailing (PC Format) describes the disks with issue PCF135. "It's a 3D modelling head-to-head on the discs, as Maya (Personal Learning Edition), the software behind the Ice Age and Final Fantasy movies, battles it out with people modeller Poser 3."

Questor ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 4:18 PM

No, Issue 25 has the camel, fairy and goblin along with Maya PLE, Combustion 2, Atmosphere beta, Quest3D, showreels by Jesse Flores and Simon Browne and the usual smattering of images.

cainbrogan ( ) posted Thu, 25 April 2002 at 4:29 PM

THis will be exciting thanks for the tips! I just came back from my local cigar store. They had an issue with Pixels 3D on the Cover Disk...Hopefully the new issue with the Fairy will be there soon!
