Subject: Caught C Exception.........HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

Hi all, Have been playing with my new OLD FOLKS, and already had Michael 2.0, and the Michael Morphing Clothes pack. I was working with the old man, and michael clothes and I saved him and when I rebooted today and tried to open him it came up with not being able to open the resources for the shirt or pants, and causes a "caight C exception, access violation" It doesn't do it for anyhting else but those clothes and models. Any suggestions? All that I know I did was update my Poser4 with the update patch from Curious Labs. Ever since then my system keeps crashing, and lost stability by 100 fold. I have tried reinstalling everything including Poser and it now says at the end(of installing Poser) that it could not add stuff to my registry.....what is going on? I am so lost and I am working on a deadline too. Can anyone help? Please? The exact coding is as follows: "Caught C exception: exception access_violation trapped at 17f:47d299" and after that it deletes everything on my screen. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Bendersquint

If it's only doing it with those items. try deleting the rsr files for those items in the geometry folder. Sometimes, the rsr's get damaged.

lmc- I have deleted all the rsr's and reloaded them and there is no change. In addition to what i forgot to add earlier is it says that it cannot open the resources for the shirt and pants, and milman, all OBJ files. The load just fine into B5 and MAX, just not in Poser. Sometimes after it it tells me that "YOU ARE OUT OF MEMORY, PLEASE CONSIDER ALLOCATING MORE MEMORY TO POSER" What can I do about that? It has happened a few time on other files but I disregarded it and worked later on it and then they worked fine. Ron- I have nuked the entire Poser program and the update and I still have the problem described in my cry for help. i believe that the update did something to my computer, I had no problems whatsoever up to when i installed the update, now my computer crashes all the time. My deadline is coming close and with Poser having problems I am afraid I won't get my project done in time. Thanks for the responses and if anyone else has any ideas, please post!

If you don't have time to try different solutions, reinstalling Windows may be your best solution. Make backup copies of your important data first. If you're running 2000 (and I assume XP as well) you may be able to bootup with your Windows CD and selecr repair your existing Windows. I just had to do this last week. All programs were intact but I lost some settings and my email. Searched out backup copies of the mail & everything is fine. Reinstalling Windows, Poser and the update should fix any software problems. You might want to download a new copy of the Poser update - conceivable yours got damaged somehow. If you still have problems after that with your system, it might be flaky hardware.

Hi, Save yourself the time and trouble and simply re-install the whole thing from scratch. Backup what you need/what you can, then trash it and start again. Format your disk and re-install the OS clean. It's the only way to be sure that it'll work. Trust me on this one. I've spent days wrestling with a half dead computer, because I was foolhardy and macho enough to think "No piece of MS crap is going to get the better of me..." but once the red drains from my face I usually find myself resigned to the fact that a re-install is the only guaranteed "cure all" for a sick computer. If you're still having problems once you've re-installed, start pulling cards. Start with the network card, (if any) then the sound card, then the modem, etc. It may help to have "cheap" replacements nearby, for the sound and gfx cards. I saw a sound card the other day for 15 Euro's (about $13.50) and you can get dirt cheap gfx cards too. Poser relies on memory and brute processor horsepower to render so the display doesn't really matter provided it works in your chosen resolution. I'd also ignore the "Out of memory" error, that's what Poser says when it can't think of anything more appropriate(and especially when it fails to load a model...) If you've got more than two days, bite the bullet and re-install, otherwise you could easily waste a day "firefighting" and still have a "dead" computer. "Been there, done that!" :) later jb

FIXED!!!!! Found out what happened. When I was loading Poser update I left the room, he checked his email and when IE stopped responding he hit Ctl, Alt, Del to close his email and accidently closed Poser instead. I thought it was finished so I rebooted and went about my business. After many many hours of being upset and mad at my computer and Curious Labs he told me what happened. After reloading my entire system, Poser (5 times) and after a few beers to help me think, I just reloaded Poser and the update before reloading anyhting Poser related and all was fine. The problem was the update did not finish and corrupted my files. Thanks for your help and glad I can cound on Renderosity to help me out! I made the project in time too. PHEW! Happy rendering, Bendersquint

Ron- Sorry for the confusion, I must have edited HIS identity out. HE is my roommate. He uses my computer sometimes to check his email when I am not doing graphics realted work. Sorry for the confusion. Bendersquint

Ron, I have spoken with him about getting his own computer, our situation is rather unique though. I am in the military serving in South Korea right now, and my roommate is a Korean Army soldier, they get paid about 10$ a month, kinda hard to get a computer on that and also they live bare bones with their "extras" during their military service time! Just so you know, but we did have a nice long talk about letting me know what is up with my stuff he uses! Thanks for the comment! Bendersquint
