Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 09 3:46 am)
heyas; poser can do all that, if you have a powerful enough machine, and enough patience. pro pack might help, as it gives you four views at once. i think the main problem working in the poser space is keeping things organized and neat. a lot of people, when they want to make a full, large scene, export the poser people (and sundry attached props) to another rendering app, such as vue or bryce. or world builder. these are 'landscape' programs, so they are well-suited to do outdoor stuff. lightwave is a very advanced modeller and renderer, and if i'm not mistaken, the pro pack is supposed to have a poser-to-lightwave plugin you can use to transfer your poser scene into it. (if you're trying to go from lightwave to poser, i think you're going backwards, to tell the truth.) so i think what you're looking at now is the need to decide exactly what you need. do you want one of the 3d landscape deals, or do you want something more complicated, like lightwave or max. do you want to model your own stuff? (in that case, the 3d landscape programs won't do you much good.) as for getting poser to render 'wide screen...' i'm not sure how pro pack handles it, but in regular poser, you just grab the lower corner of the working window and squeeze the window into the shape you want. it doesn't matter if you size it up or down, just as long as you get the proportions you want. then adjust the camera.... and you can render to a larger window of whatever size you want the image to be.
Poser was originally developped to easily pose human characters, not really to set up scenes with objects etc.. Yes you can setup scenes with props and render them but the quality of the renderer doesn't even come close to what you can accomplish with Lightwave. So don't go Lightwave to Poser, go the other way around!!! Yes you have to learn the software a little, but that is true of every software out there, da Vinci had to learn to mix the paints before he made the Mona Lisa. Poser is amazing to pose and morph your characters, that it's strenght, but you can't make Jimmy Neutron with it,that movie was made with LIghtwave. You have to start slow, it's frustrating, but it's the price you have to pay to get good at something.

Many thanks once again for all your expert advice.I guess what I am trying to do may be the long way around.I have only just come to terms with Poser, having spent the last twelve months, part time, trying to teach myself the Poser program and then buying Propack, which I problably don't use any of its attributes, due to lack of training and understanding of python scripting etc. However another program called Lightwave appeared into the equation which for me is a very complicated program.I want to start "creating" not spend all my time learning programs. What I wan't to do is use several poser figures with their clothes and props, and animals also some objects, hence aircraft etc from Lightwave format, combined with a scene (landscape ie terrain and sky)and all rendered.Am I asking too much? It seems all this can be done within poser, what with various terrains and skies available. I have 3d worlds kit (all three)but trying to pose several figures with props , and add other items is a bit of a nightmare.I also have trouble importing and laying out these various terrains. They end up a jumbled mess. The creators of these items should include a starter instruction showing parameters for a normal scene. One last thing "phew"Can the Poser window be set up to a wide screen effect as what I want to do is a landscape orientated scene?
