Subject: Vairesh's Michelle hair

I'm having some trouble getting this item to look acceptable in rendering engines other then Poser. To do so means understanding how the texturing is constructed, and I don't follow it. If we take just the hair base, it seems to be made up of three layers, outer, middle and inner. However, the first two of these are set in Poser to be 100% transparent with no transparency map. Which, as I understand it, means they are completely invisible. So why are they there? Any help gratefully received.

Heya, The extra layers are built in to allow streaks and other effects to be added ;-) Most of my products have multiple layers for highlights, streaking and in some cases like the Suzyn Hair, bangs can be added with transmaps. Cheers, Vairesh

Gotcha, thanks. I had considerably better results last night. Part of the problem is the way that this hair uses grey texture maps which in Poser you can then tint over to get any desired colour. While you can do this up to a point in other rendering apps, it does tend to grey out the hair colour a bit. I may have to work up a couple of custom textures for best results.
