Does anyone recognize these props, or pieces of these props as being their own? These images were taken from a user's website. This user had stolen some of my work and tried to pass it off as his own. I suspect that some of these items may contain parts of other peoples' meshes in them. Please look closely. The site link is below.

Jeez, everything in there is from Freestuff.

ElectricAardvark ( ) posted Thu, 02 May 2002 at 8:36 PM

I have the EvilElf Septre the ring and the cage, from free stuff here.

***Pre-emptive posting alert *** :) Lets keep this posting civil as the three of you have done. Thanks smerc

Curunir was listed as the author in the free stuff articles that I recognize, so wouldn't be surprised to see them on his site. There have 2 Staff of Saruman and several different man-cages by different people. Didn't he also post a couple of weapons?

Dendras ( ) posted Thu, 02 May 2002 at 10:36 PM

Oh, the issue here is not whether or not people have made the same TYPES of props... the issue here is that props, or pieces therof, have been re-cycled into new ones. These items are on his site, and I have contacted the owner of the host he's using. TammyC is also aware of this and has been completely responsive, and is currently dealing with this. My contention is that since he's ripped off a few of my products and offered them for free as his own, then I assume he would have done the same to other artists, hence my first post. You know, I hate that this happens. I hate that people can't just do their own work and have to steal, especially from within such a small community. Anyway, if anyone recognizes any of these props or pieces of them as being theirs, please holler.

The Sauron's Ring is by Cooler.

No wonder I thought his stuff was great--sigh-- there's also a warbanner that matches the silvery mask and wand and a couple of other things. Emily

I appreciate the responses. Could I ask anyone recognizing stuff to contact the respective artist directly? Although I appreciate the heads up.... the ring is not mine from 3D commune... As soon as I saw the original thread I did download the zip & although the file sizes are comprable the texture/bump maps are different. Additionally the ring offered on his/her/its page has inscriptions only on the outer part of the ring as opposed to mine which has separate materials assigned to the inner & outer surface so both can have lettering. As a final check I pulled the obj file into a modeller & the geometries are totally different. So while it may be stolen from someone it isn't me :-)

bantha ( ) posted Fri, 03 May 2002 at 3:45 AM

So clearly - what has he stolen? Who made this models? I doubt that posting his phone number will help anyone. I can understand that you are angry, but the fact that he may have stolen your meshes dos not mean that all of them are stolen. Most of the things are here in freestuff for some time so if anyone would have recognised them as their own have had enough time for stopping him. Just my two cents - before you hang him, ask him what he thought about that and maybe give him a chance for an apology. Anyone exept me remember Schlabbers first contact with the freestuff here?

Ah, to my eye it looked just like yours Cooler. Thanks for checking it out and assuring us it was not :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 03 May 2002 at 4:58 AM

OK, now I understand... it is Curunir that has stolen from you and maybe others. Sorry. With the head's up, people can check. I'm glad that the ring isn't Cooler's, considering that he is a nice guy as well as generous. I already had that one, with the proper inscriptions. It is too bad when things like this happen. Don't these thieves realize that they can't get away with stealing art? We might shrug off the loss of a bicycle or wallet, but stealing something we created is stealing part of ourselves, and anger is certainly justified. Carolly

Dendras ( ) posted Fri, 03 May 2002 at 10:41 AM

Hauksdottir, no problem. Bantha, I contacted him, some of my friends contacted him, and the admin of this site contacted him. No reply was made, and as far as I know he never replied to the admin here. You are correct in stating that I should have given him time to respond, and I did. There's no way you could have known that. And there's still been no apology, and it's been 24 hours. Late last night I spoke to the head of his hosting service and faxed information over to him. This morning it appears that all content of Curunir's site was gone save for the index page. ///but stealing something we created is stealing part of ourselves//// aptly and eloquently stated, indeed. Thank you, HD.

queri ( ) posted Fri, 03 May 2002 at 12:59 PM

Now there is more to do. There are the people who have downloaded these things and may not be reading this thread because they think it has nothing to do with them. I, for one, would like to know what exactly has been labeled stolen or are we to consider everything that Curunir has offered to be ripped-off mesh and delete it from our hard drives? I'm only saying this because sometime, somewhere it's gonna turn up in a render and perhaps cause hard feelings. And perhaps unjustly if people don't know. Emily

bantha ( ) posted Fri, 03 May 2002 at 1:34 PM

You should take into account that he may not have read your email up to now. May, the 1st is a national hollyday here, and maybe he just took two days free for a five day vacation. Maybe he just did not read his email. You stopped him from further sharing any files. That's plenty for now. Now let us wait until we hear something from him. I do not know this guy, but maybe he thought for some strange reason that it was legal what he did. As we have seen with the AMY-Story here that can even happen to professionals. And I would really like to now what he has stolen and in which way it was offered.

Queri, if my stuff turns up in people's art, and they unknowingly downloaded and used it, I can assure you that I'm certainly not going to hold them accountable, nor would I ask that their images be deleted.

Opening the pp2 of curunir's file "examination table" yields the following code:

version

{

number 4.2

}

prop _themachine

{

geomCustom

My original item is provided as a posable prop. or CR2. Curunir simply converted this to a prop (PP2), changed two parts and some textures (one of which was also stolen from me, and posted this in freestuff,

Bantha, I hope that what I've posted answers your questions satifactorily. As far as to why curinir did this, I really could care less. I object to having my work stolen and then re-introduced as having been made by someone else. I am sincerely sorry that my actions seem to have upset you.

I consider this matter closed.

Hi, T-online is the internet arm of the German state phone system, Deutsche Telekom, known colloquially as simply "Telekom" they are the epitomy of German bureaucracy, rigid, infexible, etc. Good luck! later jb

Dendras, you certainly have not upset me. I just want to calm the waves a bit to let him explain. But what I see there is hardly explainable. The Table looks great, and it is obviously copied from you. You have every right to be upset. Since he DOES modify the models, the people here should have a closer look. And you are right in this point - no matter why he has done it, it is wrong and must be ended.

A search for Curunir at the 3DCommune turned up nothing so far. I'll be searching the database for these items in case this guy used a different membername. I could use some help if anyone feels they can spot these items.(follow link) This is a community effort folks. Lets work together on this. Thank you Tom (Hawkfyr) 3DCommune Site Administrator
