Subject: Looking for authentic armor

Gorodin ( ) posted Sun, 05 May 2002 at 1:10 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 5:32 PM

I am searching for authentic looking armor for poser. I need infantry or light horse, c.1400-1500. Pref. french or spanish foot, splint or chainmail. I need it to fit Vicki or Stephanie, but would also like a set for Michael. Anyone seen anything like this out there?

Could you post a few pictures so we know what it looks like? There might be a kit or two that you could get and cobble together what you need.

This is 13th century splinted...

...And this is an italian set, c1400. These are the general style I am looking for.

Also, a Brigandine like this would be nice as well.

The brigandine is the easiest - just texture one of Valandar's tunics. As for accurate armour - go look at Traveler's gothic stuff at DAZ. That's close to the italian plate set you have here. Oh drat. you want Vickie. well somebody has to have a nice vicky tunic you can mangle. I havn't seen anything remotely resembling the splinted stuff. Frankly I thought that was only done in asian armour. Huh. Well the shoulder piece, knee cups, and gauntlets seem fairly normal. I'd say find a suit of armour that's about the right shape and just texture the thigh, shin. arm and forarm pieces. As for the green thing - Valander's tunics again? and add some buckles to the sides. Well go look up PhilC, Valander and Serrge in the market. Hope that helps a bit :) Lyrra

REasonably authentic armor to fit the Millennium figures will be tricky to find. However, you can use the P4 versions of each of them. Figures in armor are unlikely to require all that extra flexibility and morphability anyway. ;^) I like PhilC's Armor... got it for the Lady Knight last year and it worked smoothly. The bump maps for extra detailing were nice. The saddle and reins for the horse were reasonably medieval, too. Yoroi has a Maid of Orleans set on one of the Japanese sites (check DigitalBabes and follow the links). This is gorgeous work. Jon Malis of PoserGamers has a couple of very nice armored guys in his RPG section... please respect his bandwidth and only take 2 characters a day if you go there. Xurge of Steel Proportions has oodles of armor. Most of it is fantasy, but you might get enough pieces to suit your characters. There are a bunch of helmets and swords and such in freestuff. I remember a pretty sharp spangenhelm. I do not have any brigantine or splint mail in either my files or my memory banks. Most people do chain mail by texturing a catsuit... true byrnies? :🤷: Hopefully Little_Dragon will chime in with sources for those. Good luck! Carolly

I do it the old fashioned way -- I cheat. I have a couple dozen sets of armour (including quite a few for the Millenium folks), and I mix and match like crazy. Nothing is going to be perfect, there's just too many things that low end CGI programs can't do. You can get some pretty authentic results by mixing and matching and improving with things that are "almost right." PoserWorld has a couple of sets, (including a relatively impressive Roman Centurion, though the brigandine coat needs some retexturing work) mostly P4, but you can get around that as well.

Well, Traveler's Gothic Armour at Daz,he has it for both Mike and Vicki is just about the most authentic I have seen yet, and it's resonably priced. You may be able to use the tunics with some resizing, shouldn't be too much trouble. There are some chainmail textures around...might also try 3dcommune free area. Haven't seen any splinted around either. I've seen some chainmail shirts, but no one has yet to make one that to me anyway, actually fits like chainmail...should be loose and belted...whereas all of the mat files have the chainmail material as part of the skin texture for the mil people. Haven't seen a chainmail couf like that yet either...although I would LOVE to see one of those too :) Hrmmm...I guess with the exception of Trav's armour at Daz, I've just not been much help....:( Pendy

If you have Vickie 2 you can use the Maid of Orleans armor and use the VickyP4 figure as shown in the picture above. I've lost some of the textures for this, so this is not an accurate representation. But I think it's exactly what you're looking for.

Where is this Maid of Orleans armor? It's not perfect, but much of it is close enough for me to use. Ironocally enough, it is a Joan d'Arc scene I want to create...

It's hosted at ISOP's website, which is being refurbished.

Hello! I realize it's not rosity, but there's a set of armor for Vicky at: http://3-darena.com/freebies/index.php just do a search for armor (it shouldn't be to hard to find).
