Subject: Anyone ever have their Pose Library Get Too Big?

rudipooimf ( ) posted Wed, 22 May 2002 at 1:35 PM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 3:27 PM

I'm wondering if any of the poser faithfull have ever had this happen? My pose library is pretty big and now when i select items at the bottom of the library it will show items at the top, almost like it's substituting things in the begining for things in the end...any ideas? Thanks folks!

no I never had this problem. My poses folder is monsterous...ohhhhh how I wish for subdirectories. It literally takes me 15 seconds to get to the bottom of my poses library, no joke.

Moving all my MAT poses to my camera directory helped out a lot. (you have to rename all the files, but poser explorer made that pretty easy... took about 20 minutes) Doug

I came, I rendered, I'm still broke.

You might check PBoost, really worth a look :) J-L

I don't have may mat pose folders, only about 10, but I have a lot of folders with very few poses in them...I have been meaning to combine poses folders, but have never gotten around to it.

I have 235 pose directories, even after I moved all the MATs to camera (35 MAT folders). About 5,500 poses. Takes about 30 secs to scroll to the bottom.... It's a lot of fun when you want to create a new folder, you have to go alllllll the way down. Which of course only goes to show, when Poser 4 was made, it never occurred to anyone that the 'new folder' thing should be at the top. They never imagined it would be a problem with scrolling, that people would accumulate so much stuff. No I've never had substitution, but the names of the folders get chopped off, that's a well known bug. Max 15 characters show. ----------------- And would you believe... I have more than 300 hairstyles (!!) I just checked, never thought of it before. And still, sometimes I think, geez, no hair that looks right! Talk about Poser-damaged. :] FishNose

Fishnose... You're OK until you get to to 255 folder limit. Then Poser will start to play up. But how can you find what you're looking for with 235 pose folders... Blimey! If you wanna... check out the blurbs and tutorial for PBooost... you might find it will help you out! And as for hair... sometime I look down at my chest and think the same thing... Erk! Howard:)

#### Let's Hear it for PBooost!!!

Seriously, I just love this program. I wish PBooost was around several months ago when I decided to get rid of all my P4 characters and poses so there would "be room" for the Millennium Characters and Poses! #### PBooost Rocks!

This is an unsolicited testimonial! Message671414.jpg

Hogwarden said: But how can you find what you're looking for with 235 pose folders... Blimey! It's not how many, it's the dumb names they have. If I could beg the merchants one thing-- it's forget about name recognition for your company when you're naming Poser folders. When you're good, believe me, we remember you! I just want to see a consistent system-- name of hair MATS name of characterMATS, name of pose [not number]MATs. I haven't used several characters EVER, because I can't find them. Sure I can rename them, but I really don't want to spend all my Poser time in shuffling my library. And it's been like that lately. PBoost is a very very good thing-- it takes things out of your library that you don't need to work with right now, and puts them back when you do. Leaves you only the decision, what do I want to work with today. That part works no matter what system you have. On some XP systems-- nobody knows why-- PBoost can't run while Poser is up. No prob, you just have to make the decision of what to work with before you open Poser. It's a lifesaver. My darn Runtime is sooooo big it wants its own hard Drive and it got one, I'm just waiting for the PCMCI 2 card with the correct pins to plug it in. Who knew FireWire had two varieties-- not me. 7 Gigs and still a growing boy. Emily

Rudipooimf, Your idea is downright elegant! Thank you--my Pose files were in a real mess, and I'm just a newbie! Imagine what they would have looked like in a year (gasp!) I just switched to your little system and suddenly I can locate exactly what I want in a couple seconds, instead of scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and scrolling and scro----(slaps self) Why didn't I think of this! PS: I use a Mac and PBoost is for Windows, or I'd use it.

hogwarden ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 3:45 AM

Patricia... I'm looking into getting a MAC and re-creating PBooost on it... or re-writing a MAC version in java or another x-platform language... if there is one. I don't meen to be prejudiced ahainst MAC users! H:)

Macs are nice, but they've really slipped in "the computer world," in terms of acceptance and abundance. I love to shop in "Computer Superstores," which are warehouse-type stores. You see an abundance of PC-related hardware and software. The Mac stuff is usually found in a tiny little corner of the store. I used to work "Pricing and Availability" for Computer City. I received several calls a day from people who wanted to know when certain hardware would come in. Then Apple turned around and discontinued stuff all the time. Until that experience I was convinced Macs made a certain amount of sense. Apple just needed to get those prices down to a more competitive level. That experience soured me against Macs. Besides it would be a major investment to replace everything I now have for the PC. Ron

hogwarden ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 3:00 PM

Good point well made, Ron... ... but people do use them !! :)

Patricia ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 7:07 PM

USE them?!! We love our powerful, incredibly well-designed, graphic arts friendly Macs! There is a huge Mac community here in the San Francisco/Oakland/Berkeley/San Jose area. Most of us shop at dealers that either specialize in Macs or, at the very least, carry the whole line plus supplies--not at the mega-marts. Mega-marts and Macs just don't belong together somehow. I've never heard an IBM owner express great affection and loyalty to their 'puter....but nearly every Mac owner I know loves their Mac.

hogwarden ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 7:18 PM

Hmmm... I think I need one. (to network with my PC, of course!) Hmmm... Any "pre-loved" macs about?? H:)

Patricia ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 8:02 PM

Yes--in Berkeley there's a good used Mac place...can't remember the name, but a search might turn them up. And there are deals at Apple (constantly changing, so if you see one you like, move fast!). There are lots of those warehouse sites, too. But I'd rather get Apple's support and warranties when I buy used.

hogwarden ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 8:13 PM

trouble is, I'm limited to the UK... shipping is expensive!! I need to go to a couple of auctions... :)

BillyGoat ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2002 at 8:21 PM

From what i've heard, 240 folders (within a folder) is Windows limit. My Poser partiton is 25 gigs. I've used 16.8 gigs of it. So, I installed a second poser (gutted of all the original files) on a different partition so that I could keep my addiction going...
