Subject: selecting multiple body parts?

mlevans ( ) posted Fri, 07 June 2002 at 9:31 AM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 4:19 PM

This is likely a remarkably foolish question, but is it possible when working on a figure in Poser to increase or decrease the scale of more than one body part simultaneously? I am thinking particularly of hands and their corresponding fingers, that it would be useful to change the scales of fingers proportionately with changes to the hands they are on. Can this be done, or must one work individually with each finger segment once the hand scale has been modified? Peace, Morgan

Morgan, Yes, each part of the body may be scale in x,y,z or in whole. So you can scale the index longer and thinner if you like. If you at the dials on your screen, you should see scale, xscale, yscale, zscale they used to do this. I hope this helps thebert

My thanks, thebert. This will save me a lot of time that I would have spent looking in vain for a means to do this (even though it also means I'll be spending more time playing with each individual finger segment). 'Twould be nice to be able to select more than one though.

Hmmm ... I have a free Poser Python script on my site that lets you group together MTs on a figure. You can then change all of the MT settings from a single slider bar. I could make a varient of it that would change scaling on selected actors if that would be of help.

bushi, that would be a groove...it sounds like exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of...just to be certain I'm not mistaking your meaning, you're saying this would be a single slider that could for instance proportionately change the existing scale settings for hands and fingers as though they were a single unit?...crossing my fingers, sure hope so.

bushi ( ) posted Fri, 07 June 2002 at 12:08 PM

Yes, it would display a panel with all the parts of the current figure. You could then select the parts to use and that would link all of selected parts to a single slider bar. Changing the value on the slider would change the scaling of all the selected parts. Thinking about it a bit more, it would probably work better if it where have 4 sliders. One each for scale, x-scale, y-scale and z-scale but the idea would be the same. Select the parts and their scaling values would all be changed from the 4 slider bars.

Bushi, Yes, I knew you had that script. But I'm not sure Morgan has ProPack now. So Morgan do you have ProPack?

bushi, that would be fantastic. Assuming that there are indeed tech-angels, I strongly suspect that you are among their numbers. Do you have time and inclination to do this?

mlevans ( ) posted Fri, 07 June 2002 at 12:56 PM

No, sorry...no Pro Pack. I know it's something that's available...is it expensive?

thebert ( ) posted Fri, 07 June 2002 at 1:02 PM

Than you are not going to be able to use the script that bushi is talking about. Poser Python scripts only run on ProPack. Sorry

ahhh...that is too bad. This was beginning to sound very promising. Guess I will just have to continue stretching fingers and hands separately till I can come up with the purchase price.

bushi ( ) posted Fri, 07 June 2002 at 1:18 PM

I'll go ahead and built it anyway since it sounds like something useful. It shouldn't be that big of a project since I can modify the MT Grouper script. I'll put it in my freebie area so it'll be available if/when you get the Pro Pack.

Seems you could make a pose file that would set scales for a series of body parts, such as fingers. Have to do it in a text editor, but then it would work on any figure with those part names. It would have a set percentage, not Bushi's elegant sliders to adjust on the fly, but would be useful if you wanted to do the same scaling more than once. Hopping into a text editor to change the percent would still be faster than adjusting each finger segment. I'd give it a try, but I've got to get a project out the door - Elisa/gryffnn

bushi, bless your heart. gryfnn, the info is appreciated, but I do not know how to do such things as yet. In any case, bless your heart also. Did I miss anyone? Oh, yes...one more blessing for thebert. Peace.
