Subject: Voodoo Card...

What effect if any does a graphic card like a Voodoo 3 or 4 have on rendering times or general 'look' of the final image?

None. I would recommend a TNT2 or GeForce based card if you are looking for a new graphics gard. I have an old TNT1 16mb AGP card and it runs really well. Now, The Voodoo may help with Carrara since it supports Open GL but Im not 100% sure on that. Bryce and Poser dont support Open GL. I am also not a fan of Voodoo based cards. I prefer the Riva line much better. Personal opinion. Hopefuly other will have info on this for you also. Clint Hawkin-Z GraF-X Add-Ons for the Digital Artist www.bbay.com/hawkins

Carrara does not like Open GL I was having all kinds of prob when I had it set to Open GL. I now have it set to Software and it pushes 70 fps. Clint is right that GeForce card looks great. I have a Voodoo 3000 16 meg and if I did it all over I would get the GeForce. Spike

I am using a Voodoo 3 and don't seem to get any faster/better rendering speeds/quality from OpenGL than I do from software renderer or 3d draw renderer. I jumped the gun when Voodoo 3 was first released and didn't realise that it is only a 16 bit card and not capable of 32 bit colour. :(

Clint just a correction Bryce does support OpenGL. I it use it often with Bryce and Carrara but I do belive that it renders better with the software renderer. Just my opinion though. Tuck
