I am trying to import a 3ds file. Using Vue 4, latest patch. If I modify the geometry of the object before importing into Vue, The object in Vue has soft edges or is 'smoothed'. I need the crisp edges to show shadows. Attached is a top view of some roof forms - on the lower right the geometry was NOT modified before importing --- upper left the objects were slightly modified in the original software. All were saved together. ( I realize the sun angle is not the same however the result looks the same) All the objects are in the same file. is there some way to prevent the 'smoothing' that makes the crisp edges look rounded within Vue or whatever is modifying the way light interacts with the crisp edges? (does any of this make sense???) Many thanks, Rivers

Looks fine to me... the "roundness" you're seeing is the anti-aliasing that is taking place... that makes the model blend into the scene in a more natural way by "blurring" the edges slightly. That is what all 3D programs do... I say, don't worry about it and proceed like nothing is happening, and do a final render on it. You'll never notice it.

Try double clicking on your house in vue, and reduce the 'maximum smoothing angle'.

Zoon, Thanks very much. That did it!!! I know my first post was not very clear so thanks also for noodling through it to figure out what I was asking. Riv
