Subject: Magnets not working???

Of all the people to have this happen who can't figure out what the problem is. I am at the moment creating some morphs for Daz Kids - I lined up my magnet bases and zones and configured them as usual - in this case the head.... but the magnets never did any thing...absolutely nothing! What I think what I have done is perhaps parented a magnet or zone wrong. Does any know what the default hierarchy of a magnet?

You can probably do a work around by selecting the magnet, go to Object/Properties, click the "Add element to deform" and select the head. If you find another body part that deforms and you don't want it to just select it and set its magnet dial to zero. This should save you deleting the magnet and starting again.

I have already try this Phil... the funny thing is, the magnet I am using before hand already works fine on a standard figure. All I really did was change the magnet zones scale and its coordinates along with the magnet base and its coordinates. Then I proceeded to do exactly what you have suggested - object/properties "Add element to deform" and selected the head from the list. (It as so looks fine in regard to parenting in the hierarch editor). Still no go!? This is very, very strange ? I will just reboot the machine and Poser and start from scratch - its going to be that hard mind you, since I wrote the magnet coordinate and properties down. Thankyou

You can save yourself some writing in situations like this by using Poser's ever-useful copy-paste capability: - just select the magnet base, copy, and paste into Wordpad or Simpletext - then do the same for the magnet zone and magnet - to set each again, just copy the appropriate lines from the text file, copy, and in Poser, select the object and paste Useful also to keep records and to eyeball settings, which might even show something strange that's causing your magnet problems. Thats a great tip, I never knew you could copy directly to wordpad and back...thats great! Does this trick work for the morph targets too. You would think by now with all the morphing I do, I would have caught on to this one (I am not to swift some times). Thanks. Its funny thing you mentioned it - but its the eyes and sockets are the very thing I am trying to change. I have been trying to make Asian eyes for Daz Kids. I tried what I stated I was going to do to Phil by rebooting ... no change... sigh... yet the magnets work fine on any other figure. "The next thing for the high diving act"(buggs bunny) - is to group the areas and target them within head. I hate going outside of Poser to external editors but I may just have to.

Copy-paste is an old trick. I think I started using it to mirror magnets across the center line for morphing by copying the settings from one magnet to a second, then negating the xtrans value (-0.005 to 0.005). You may have to change any rotation values too, to get symmetry. Yes, it works with morph values. Just select the head or other element and copy. I've been playing a lot with copy-paste to create my free-standing XprssnMagic and FaceMagic products. Since you get text files, you can use code to concatinate various values (like eye and mouth expressions), then paste the result into Poser to set a combination of dials all at once. heyas; magnets don't do anything for two reasons: (okay, maybe 3) 1: they are not set to affect that body part. ...you can rule that out if you had the head selected when you applied the magnet, or you can fix it by adding the head. 2: the mag zone is not touching that part. ...make sure no morphs are on when you position the zone, especially morphs that move the body part or bits of it (ie: those open mouth morphs on the animals). the zone has to point to the default location of the vertices. 3: the body part has its bend turned off. ...hit ctrl-i and make sure bend for the head is turned on. you will almost certainly have to turn it on for the eyes. once you spawn morph targets, you can turn the bend back off. (this insightful poser psychoanalysis brought to you by my forthcoming poser book.... ;) )

Thanks to you all great stuff! It will be a great way to record my settings, etc gryffnn In regard the magnet zone not touching that part bloodsong thats not an really issue either. But the bend turned off or the morphs are on...perhaps off to check it out P.S. This is driving me crazy...Will tell you how I make out... It will be something real stupid - you watch!

Ha, it always seems stupid - once you solve it. What really makes me crazy is when I know I've run into a problem before, but just can't remember how I fixed it.

Bloodsong the bend was off! The Daz kids head has the bend off by default. I would have never figured that out for quite a period of time. Thank you all for your time now off to do some work
