Subject: ATTENTION STRATA USERS:

Digit magazine will be giving away Strata StudioPro 2.5.3 free with issue #50. There are questions being asked about this program, and we need all Strata users, I repeat ALL Strata users to report to your forum. Yes, by all Strata users I mean BOTH of you, damn it! By the way, when was the last time someone cleaned that place? I know you probably weren't expecting company, but the dust is two inches thick and there are cobwebs EVERYWHERE!

LOL... ermmm sad to say but i am a strata owner who hasn't had time to learn it much :-( and also, not sure this is quite the right place for this thread? OT? or the strata forum?

Poppi ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 7:14 PM

I own strata, as well...i like the way it renders....but, most of my stuff i do in rhino...and then...well poser and, finally, bryce. been meaning to play with strata sometime, but, if i do get freetime...zbrush has been grabbing my attention. hummm....feeling like an a.d.d. kid in a software store.

Well Audre, I posted it here because I was hoping that perhaps the admin would take a hand in this and help out. Maybe we could declare next week "Strata Awareness Week"? We could throw a party in the OT forum! I'll model the cake if someone else will whip up some balloons. Maybe we could hang a big banner that says: "Hey, The Strata Forum Actually Exists. Really! I Swear! No Joke!" What do you say, guys and gals? It's a shame to waste a perfectly good forum like that. Surely you could store those crates of empty bottles from the Virtual Tavern somewhere else, say, for instance, the Canoma forum? There must someone out there somewhere who actually USES Strata, and by God we need to find them. Surely someone must have used that forum at one time. Where are they? Did they leave Renderosity? Were they eaten by spiders in the forum (I saw this one down there, that sumbitch must have been a foot long!)? Or are they still around here somewhere, maybe having had their identities changed through the Federal Software User Relocation Program? Or maybe you want to hide this thread away somewhere because you don't want the truth exposed, that the PTB used the Strata community as test subjects for strange, hideous, inhuman biological tests? By God, we want answers! Where are these people, why don't they use that forum, and what do they think about software that cost them almost two grand a couple of years ago being given away free? This is the "Forum News" forum, and I think the disappearance of an entire community of users is news. "Team Contact"? I'm contact you, damn it! Render up some Poser dogs and see if they can sniff up any trace of the Strata community. And if we find out they're chained up in the cellar of the 3D Commune, there'll be war!

LOL... okay okay... well... let's do something in the Strata forum then! if you want to have a party in OT, i am game for that too... howabout a renderparty??

Disclaimer: The views expressed above by x2000 are not necessarily shared by the undamaged half of his brain. Ok, seriously, I'm just trying to find some Strata users. No one seems to be answering questions down there, or even in the 3D Apps forum, and I thought this might be the best place to let them know that there's a big interest in Strata coming, not to mention that anyone using the free version can get something much more powerful for free real soon. That IS forum news, isn't it? Seriously?

x2000 ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 8:26 PM

Oops, I only just noticed that you managed to slip a post in between my last two! Yeah, a party would be great. I'll make a big old cake, and I don't think we'll have any problem finding a naked Vicki to pop out of it. The Poser gallery's crammed full of them. The only hard part will be choosing just one. Tell Kbennett to we'll need him to bring over some booze from the Tavern. In fact, tell him to bring LOT of it... Now who wants to model some balloons?

Entropic ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 4:12 AM

Balloons I can do. Just get me a time to have 'em there. When all's said and done, think I could sell them on TurboSquid? I mean, they are selling a ball for 99 dollars... A tapered sphere might be worth 150 over there. :) Paul

I don't know. Considering the situation, I'm thinking now that a wake might be more appropriate...

Jaqui ( ) posted Sat, 22 June 2002 at 2:44 AM

aww, candles for the cake? could whip up some with animated flames on them ~g~ (.gif format for file size) ...now what was the name of that mag again...gonna have to get it to let Stormrage play around with nother app.....though only got a few spare minutes here and there for myself.

kupa ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2002 at 6:33 PM

Just for reference, I used to work at Strata. Got my start there. Was an early user of Stratavision 1.1 on the Mac. Was hired as an artist/designer doing 3D renderings, boxart, etc., then became their "Cyber warrior" - evangelist/corporate spokesperson... shiite you not... sad to see the cobwebs.

x2000 ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2002 at 6:47 PM

Well, I just ordered that copy of Digit today, so once I get it and get the hang of StrataPro, I'll see if I can't stir up some interest around here. This looks like a hell of a lot of program to be getting free! I've heard good things about the renderer, it has bones and all... I can't believe anyone would pass up a chance like this!?!?! This cost a hell of a lot not all that long ago...

kupa ( ) posted Fri, 28 June 2002 at 8:10 PM

I paid over 1200 for it back in 93 or so... Ran it on a 33mhz machine with 32meg ram and a 40 meg hard drive. Render wander was a great way to get into shape.
