Subject: The Millennium Mustache (Modelling Theory/Approach)

Hey friends, I was thinking about creating a mustache, that can morph into virtually any 'stache, that smart prop'd right to the head. Now, this would definitely need trans maps, and I'm thinking probably multiple maps. This would be an easy modelling job, however, I'm wondering how to approach it, just about five planes, in a cascaded, stair stepped approach? How would others go about this here? Any ideas? What I love about 3D modelling, there are 1000 ways to skin a cat, it's just finding the best one . . .

Actually Talmid, I've been thinking of this kind of project myself. A two piece project actually. Mustache and Beard. Both with morphs and such. Now to answer your question. I was planning on using something similiar to the best hair stuff out there. Essentially take on plane for the outer edge, this connects to the lip at the top edge of the mustache and curves out. Now add another plne slightly above that but transmapped heavily so that only a few hairs will show here. Add one or two planes underneath to give it some depth to the upper lip. Now repeat for the beard. Hope this helps.
